PAA Members’ Meetings February and March Present Opportunities, Insights and Ideas

MARCH

The PAA March Members’ meeting will be held March 27 at Sam Johnson Center at 6:30. A short business meeting will proceed the program for the evening. The business  meeting will include selection of a Nominating Committee for our officers election in May.

For our program we will have a return demo and lecture presentation by Justin Brown who represents Golden art products. You can learn more about Justin on his website.

This will be a fun, informative, educational and fast-paced presentation about all the products GOLDEN has to offer. Justin will cover information about the different types of acrylic paints, media, gels, pastes and grounds. There will also be a technical review of acrylics and their varied application possibilities and techniques in working with mixed media and printmaking. This lecture will hopefully give you some new insights that can be added to your own creative process. You will receive a free information packet, hand painted color charts and a bag of free GOLDEN product samples to take home.

February Members’ Meeting was Held

February 7 at Sam Johnson Center

Due to the January ice storm, our first Members’ Meeting was rescheduled for February 7. The feature for the evening was our first Art Share of 2023, and one of our first in-person Shares in a while. John Van Ness expertly hosted the Share with eight members sharing their work with the well-attended crowd at the Sam Johnson Recreation Center.

A short business meeting and announcements started the evening. Frank Turner was present and gave us an update on the Collaborative Arts of Plano initiative.

PAA Members’ Pop-Up Exhibit April 15, During Plano Arts Week in the Arts District

The City of Plano is officially declaring April 10 through April 16 “Plano Arts Week.” That means that all of the arts organizations will be conducting special events that will showcase the presence and importance of the arts in the Plano community. The Collaborative Arts of Plano (CAP) will be leading the effort and its city-wide promotion. PAA is a founding member of CAP.

As part of Plano Arts Week, PAA is planning a pop-up art show on Saturday, April 15 from 11:00 till 5:00. Similar to a previous event, we will stage an outdoor exhibit on the parking lot across from the DART station in the Arts District in Downtown Plano.

Artist applications are being accepted on a first-come basis. A total of 14 tent/canopy spaces will be featured. At this point all but a couple of spaces have been reserved. If you would like to be put on a waiting list, let us know at adminexec@planoartassociation.org

Costs for each artist will be $50 as partial payment for a canopy tent. PAA will subsidize the cost beyond that amount. If you have your own tent, you can provide it instead. Canopy/tents will be delivered to the site, but artists will be responsible for setting up and taking down their tents.

Members’ Opportunity Continue at Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea Shop

In partnership with Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea Shop in Murphy, PAA presents an on-going Mini Art Show. Submission is open for current PAA members only.

There is no fee to submit to these monthly exhibits. Entries will be accepted in the categories of Painting, Drawing, Photography, and Mixed Media. All works must be the original concept of the artist. The theme for March exhibit is Water/Blue…so art that relates to theme was requested.

Watch your email for the next exhibit call. One or two artworks can be submitted per member.  Depending on the total submissions, you will be getting an email confirming which piece is accepted into the next themed call. A total of only 31 entries can be accepted and will be on first-come first-serve basis.

Also, it’s so important to name your files like this:
