Ummah Coffee Grand Opening
A MAPS Cafe

Alhamdulillah this past Saturday, we saw the Grand Opening of Ummah Coffee in MAPS! In just the past week alone, thousands of people have come to the Cafe to experience the community — from youth to adults — and enjoy a delicious coffee, tea, or pastry on the side. It was such a blessing to see so many happy faces filling the masjid between Taraweeh and Qiyam.
Not only do they serve coffee to the MAPS community, but Ummah Coffee also provides an amazing opportunity to our small business owners from MAPS_SBRN to provide desserts, Kunaffa, espresso infused cookies, baklava, Basbussa, and more! These small businesses included Jawhara Cafe, Cloud Food Court, Alidas Bakery, and Dianas Cakes. It also provides job opportunities to the youth, a few of whom already joined the team as baristas! Alhamdulillah!
Ultimately, Ummah Coffee not just a Cafe, but a coworking space, youth center, and most importantly a community space where people can share coffee (Seattle’s favorite drink!), tea, pastries, and great conversation with others! Ummah Coffee was started by a group of three young MAPS members – Juned Ansari, Hasan Mangrio, and Osman Salahuddin – who just wanted to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee with other young people after Jummah. Now, you can see the youth filling the entire Cafe space! 100% of the proceeds are going towards MAPS, Youth Programs, and Cafe operations.

Join MAPS-MCOC in celebrating "Ramadan Around the World"! with fun, crafty, and sweet treats on May 1st from 5 to 7pm! We will be celebrating Eid on "The Night of Rewards" or "Laylat al-Jaiza" with storytime crafts, henna, balloons, and more activities.
This will be an in-person event hosted in the MAPS MPR room; there is a limited capacity so please register with the link below! We have just re-opened registration and there are less than 10 spots remaining!

As we move into our new normal following the past two years, MAPS is once again hosting singles Iftars on weekdays and community Iftars on weekends (Fri/Sat) during the blessed month of Ramadan 2022, insha'Allah. The cost of Iftar is $15 per plate.
MAPS is helping raise upto $30,000 for Iftar at the Ethiopian Muslims Association of Seattle (EMAS) and the Muslim American Youth Foundation (MAYF) of Seattle. These are neighboring communities that are in need and sponsorship will benefit them immensely.

Each week you will have the option to enroll your child into the camp of your choice.
The slots are first come first serve.

MAPS Youth! Thank you all for a wonderful joint iftar with the Bosnian Youth groups this past Saturday!! iA this is the start of many joint events with fellow Muslim Youth Groups! This coming Friday, we would like to invite High School Seniors and MAPS Youth Alumni to Ahsen and Sarah's house for an iftar! Food will be provided. Can't wait to see you there!

✨ Patient Advocacy Workshop ✨
Please join Muslim Health Professionals (MHP) and MAPS-MCRC for the first workshop in our series "Navigating the U.S. Healthcare System". This workshop will be led by healthcare professionals to address challenging patient-provider encounters and discuss ways to advocate for ourselves as patients. This event will be held on May 14th at MAPS Redmond in the MPR from 2-4PM and virtually via Zoom.
Topics that will be covered include:
- Patient rights: what to expect from a patient-provider relationship
- Informed Consent: understanding what’s on the form that you sign before any procedure or surgery
- Maximizing clinic visits: how to get the most out of your clinic visit and collaborative decision making
- Challenging encounters: what to do when you are faced with a challenging encounter in the clinic or at the hospital
You may submit a case or question regarding a challenging provider encounter which may be discussed anonymously as a group. This is entirely optional.
We hope to provide light refreshments and ask that you please confirm your participation with this form.
