The UAV Mapping Educational Series is comprised of five two-hour webinars that are designed to teach professionals about the concepts behind UAVs, mission planning, data collection, data processing, georeferencing, quality assurance, lidar alternatives, attributing the information, national standards, and products. Series participants will be given access to video recordings of sessions one through four in case they have a scheduling conflict preventing them from participating in one or more of the live webinars.

The 2024 MALSCE Convention Was a Great Success



MALSCE leaders are pleased to report that the 2024 MALSCE Convention, which was held on Friday and Saturday, March 1 & 2, at the Boxboro Regency Hotel & Conference Center, was judged to be a

great success. The convention attracted 150 registrants, the highest number of attendees in more than a decade. Feedback from the participants who responded to MALSCE's request for input indicated that the convention was well-received.


A Convention Planning Committee, co-chaired by Todd Chapman, MALSCE Cape Cod Chapter president, and Paul Campbell, MALSCE vice president, was charged with the task of developing and presenting this year's convention. After months of planning, this committee hosted a convention, which was organized under the theme "The Evolution of Our Profession," and featured nine general and concurrent sessions, fourteen exhibitors, MALSCE Annual Meeting & Awards Ceremony, and a reception and auction to benefit the MALSCE Education Trust.

Dan Bremser Named

MALSCE Surveyor of the Year


J. Dan Bremser, PLS, senior project manager at Hancock Associates, Inc., was named the recipient of MALSCE's prestigious 2023 Surveyor of the Year Award during the 2024 MALSCE Convention’s Annual Meeting. This award is annually presented to a professional land surveyor who has provided outstanding leadership for the profession.


The MALSCE Awards Committee, which is comprised of the four most recent Surveyor of the Year Award winners, selected Dan for his outstanding leadership in the profession as a dedicated MALSCE officer and practicing professional land surveyor. Dan has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to promoting the ethics, integrity, and legal aspects of the surveying profession in these roles. His commendable efforts to further his colleagues’ and the public’s understanding of land surveying are impactful and noteworthy. Dan's colleague, Joseph Small from Hancock Associates, Inc., pictured on the right above, next to MALSCE President Ken Conte, accepted the award on Dan's behalf.


The tradition of selecting a Surveyor of the Year dates back to MALSCE’s early days. It allows the association the opportunity to honor and thank a leader who has been exemplary for their service to MALSCE, the profession and the community. David Prince Given

MALSCE Presidential Citation


David P. Prince, PLS, vice president survey services at WSP, was the recipient of a 2024 MALSCE Presidential Citation during this year's annual convention. Presidential citations are awarded by the MALSCE president to individuals who they feel have distinguished themselves by their contributions to MALSCE and/or the land surveying profession.


David (pictured on the left next to MALSCE President Ken Conte in the adjacent photograph) received this award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to MALSCE and the land surveying profession as chair of the MALSCE Public Awareness Committee. Under his exemplary leadership, this revitalized committee is promoting the benefits of a career in land surveying to students, teachers, and counselors. David has demonstrated an admirable dedication to helping ensure there is a future generation of professional land surveyors.

MALSCE Congratulates Convention Plan & Field Notes Contests Winners


One of the highlights of the 2024 MALSCE Convention was Friday's Plan and Field Notes Contests during which attendees were able to view a total of 42 entries and vote for the top plans in multiple categories, as well as the Plan and Field Notes of the Year. Join the MALSCE Public Awareness Committee

 

The recently reconstructed MALSCE Public Awareness Committee is charged with promoting the general recognition and acceptance of the practice of land surveying and survey engineering and stimulating a greater interest in public perceptions affecting the profession. Committee chair David Prince, PLS, from WSP, has been holding regular meetings and member of the committee have made several visits to promote a career in land surveying to secondary school students.

Governor Healey Proclaims Week of March 17, 2024 as Professional Land Surveyors Week


Governor Maura Healey proclaimed the week of March 17, 2024, to be Professional Land Surveyors Week. The Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE) encourages its members to continue its work to increase awareness of land surveying careers.


This week, March 17-23, 2024, is also National Surveyors Week and March 21, 2024 is Global Surveyors Day. The work of land surveyors is essential, and the goal of this week is to explain their contributions to the public, while promoting the profession to young people considering career paths.

Almer "Bud" Huntley, Jr. (1931-2024)


Members of the MALSCE Board of Directors are saddened to announce the passing of longtime MALSCE member and 1976-1977 MALSCE President, Almer "Bud" Huntley, PE, PLS, on February 19, 2024.

Franklin Cummings Tech (formerly Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology) is now offering professional land surveying courses for those currently working in surveying. Other universities with online surveying and geomatics programs options include Ferris State University and Oregon Institute of Technology.
