Pre-Adoptive Parent Training in Illinois

The Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) in Illinois requires that every adoptive parent receive a minimum of 4 hours of In-Person Prospective Parent Adoption Training. These hours go toward your total training hours of 10 or 12 (China) which are required. The Training Session will cover important issues for parents to consider as they plan for adoption. The curriculum includes:
Preparing for a Successful Adoption
Process for Completing an Adoption
Adoption as a Legal Process
Understanding a Child’s Prior Experience and How They Effect Adoptive Placements
Medical Risks
Attachment Issues
Openness as a Continuum in Adoption
Special Issues in Adoption
Issues Specific to a Child’s Special Needs
The training is $100 per session for Madison Adoption Associates clients (per family), or $150 per session for clients (per family) from other agencies. Single applicants are welcome to bring a support person. If a Prospective Parent requests an individual training session, the fee is double and the training will only be held in the Madison Adoption Associates office.
