Please join us for the unveiling of "River Bridge," a large 8 ft. x 8 ft. fine art creation by artist V.L. Cox. "River Bridge" is based on a 1909 iron truss bridge once located in Hot Springs County that spanned over the Ouachita River, and is taken from an old black and white photograph Cox took over 25 years ago before the old metal bridge was razed. Cox spent many days on this bridge watching the sun set while the lazy river flowed below. She is excited to recreate this special piece where so many memories were made.

Cox, whose work is rooted in Southern historical culture, integrates two and three-dimensional media with found objects to represent history and the American South. Her approach is inspired by personal and current events and connects the viewer to narratives of the past and present.

"Tales From the South" is an official sponsor of "River Bridge", and South on Main jumped at the opportunity to have the unveiling.

Cox received her BFA from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia and has a background in the scenic industry. In the past she has created large backdrops for organizations including the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Ballet, Los Colinas Film Studios, and the 1995 National Civil Rights Humanities Awards in Memphis, TN.

She has exhibited her artwork nationally in venues including the 1999 International Women's Works Competition in Chicago, Illinois. Her work may be seen in private and public collections, including the following: the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, the Historic Arkansas Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas, President William Jefferson Clinton, and as well as numerous corporate collections.

"I look forward to recreating this iconic view, and memories of my youth," Cox said.

During the unveiling, M2 Gallery, who represents the work of Cox locally, will also be showing new abstract works by Cox throughout the restaurant space.
