Luvk9s July monthly newsletter
The dog days of summer are in full swing; we are all aware of the dangers of leaving your dog alone in a parked vehicle but here are a few other things to keep in mind that you might not think about.

  • Surfaces your dog walks on can heat up quickly; be particularly aware of black asphalt.
  • Dogs are not natural swimmers; don't assume they will know how to swim if they accidentally fall into a body of water.
  • Be aware of dangerous pesticides, insecticides and herbicides used in the summer. If you believe your pet may have ingested something poisonous, call the ASPCA POISON CONTROL CENTER at 888-426-4435.

Front door misbehavior

Do you know why you can't tell a knock-knock joke to a dog?

You: Knock knock.
Your dog: Bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark.

Which is a good lead-in to this topic - undesirable front door behavior. Does canine chaos and commotion ensue when somebody knocks on your front door?

“A door is what a dog is perpetually
on the wrong side of.” (Ogden Nash)
Breed of the month: BOYKIN SPANIEL
Goldie is 12 weeks old and lives in Big Canoe.
The Boykin spaniel is one of the few breeds named after a specific person, Whittaker Boykin, who was one of the breed's first trainers. Did you also know that:

  • Ancestors of the breed are the Chesapeake Bay retriever, the cocker spaniel and the American water spaniel?
  • Boykin spaniels are the official dog of South Carolina?
  • Even though they were originally bred to be hunting dogs, their sweet temperament makes them an excellent family pet?
