Enrichment activity #6 - take a bow

Teaching your dog tricks is not only fun but offers many other benefits. Tricks training enhances the bond between you and your dog, improves their ability to learn new things, is a confidence builder and teaches high-energy dogs to focus on you.
Take a bow, where your dog keeps his back legs upright but bows down on his front legs, is an easy trick to teach your dog. Start with your dog standing. Hold a treat at your dogs nose, slowly pull straight down and slightly forward towards the dog as the treat nears the ground.
To entice you to consider taking a tricks class, Luvk9s will be offering $20 off the AKC Novice tricks class that starts Jan. 7th.

The new year is upon us, and with it comes the desire to establish goals for the upcoming year.

Common New Year’s resolutions include exercising, losing weight and getting organized. If you are a dog owner, your list might also include training your dog.

According to businessinsider.com, the three main reasons resolutions fail is because they are not specific enough, they aren’t “framed” positively and your resolution isn’t about you. To make “training the dog” a more achievable goal, a better resolution might be “make coming when called enjoyable for Fido.”

How do we do this? One way is to use games to make training fun and entertaining for your dog.
