Luvk9s February monthly newsletter
Winter can be dreary, but February does have two things going for it: Groundhog Day and the Westminster Dog Show! Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, so spring is just around the corner. Woo hoo! And King, the wire fox terrier won Best in Show at Westminster.

Proper dog/human introductions

A client recently shared a story about her dog biting a stranger. The stranger approached, leaned over and reached his hand towards the dog in one fell swoop to allow the dog to sniff. The dog was startled and bit. Obviously upset, she asked what she could have done to prevent this.

As dog owners, it’s our responsibility to be advocates for our dog. Things can happen in a blink of an eye; unfortunately, the reality is that many humans do not know how to properly greet a dog.

Breed of the month: WIRE FOX TERRIER

The wire fox terrier has won Best in Show at Westminster an astounding 14 times! But did you also know that:

  • The wire fox terrier's tail does not wag but quivers? And that the tail is strong enough to allow handlers to grab it and pull them away from trouble?
  • Wire fox terriers are very intense and high energy (they were bred to hunt) so can be challenging to train?
  • Coats need to be hand stripped, not brushed?
