Expert advice for the re-opening of stores
It is not clear when the non-food retail sector will re-open for business and the final decision on this will be made by Government and the public health experts.
However, we need to be ready and as we start to prepare for the re-opening of stores it is likely that some virus control restrictions will continue to be necessary to limit transmission.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has issued a new guide for non-food retail stores – outlining how best to implement government advice.
This includes recommendations for:
- Outside the store - including limiting entrance and exit points into and out of store and limiting the number of customers in the store at any time
- Inside store – including identifying and regularly cleaning key touch points such as door handles, lift buttons, keypads, stair/escalator handrails
- Shop floor and till areas – including one-way systems using floor markings and signage
- Changing rooms – if it is not possible to close these have a colleague in place at all times to ensure social distancing is maintained.
