Learn About Lutheran World Relief Sunday, July 21st at 9am
On Sunday, July 21st, Ms. Coleen Southwell, representative of Lutheran World Relief (LWR), will join us for the 9am Sunday School hour and worship. During the 9am hour, Ms. Southwell will show a video(s) that demonstrates several Lutheran World Relief projects in Africa, Ukraine and other countries. She will also answer questions and explain how important this organization has been in assisting communities throughout the world that struggle with basic life skills learn to achieve self sufficiency.
HTELC has historically supported this international world relief organization through our annual budgeted contribution to the N.C. Synod, particularly during times of crisis such as Ukraine family resettlements. ELCA also appoints directors to serve on the LWR Board. But even closer to home are our dedicated quilt makers who laboriously produce quilts that are delivered to LWR and then distributed to the world. WELCA also gathers supplies for book bags that will be assembled by our congregation on September 8th. They, too, go to the world through LWR.
In addition, we can support these missions by individual gifts. Another reason to support these world causes is how efficient LWR is in making sure our contributions reach their destination. LWR has always been near the top in managerial efficiency and can be trusted to deliver our contributions to the intended mission.
Please join Ms. Southwell on July 21st and learn more about this ministry which has been a part of our history and bears our Lutheran name.

Fifth Sundays Pennies This Sunday
Bring that loose change from the dish at home or the car cupholder this Sunday as we help to raise money for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nationwide organization of volunteers who build, assemble, and deliver top-notch wooden bunk beds to children and families who would otherwise have to sleep on the floor. Your donation to the Fifth Sunday Pennies Project will help purchase a mattress, pillow, and sheets for the beds. While we always accept coins in our jug, we also accept paper money! Look for the Pennies Jug in the Pavilion this Sunday.

Thursday night dinners is a great way to serve and our college students are always thankful for the meals provided. Questions? Contact Helen Vozzo at helen.vozzo@gmail.com.

Splashing into Summer: A Fun-Filled Work Day
On Saturday, July 27th, starting at 8:30am, all are invited to grab their summer super-soakers and perhaps a change of clothes for a day of fun while still getting the work done. Kids will put those super-soakers to use cleaning the air conditioning units and the playground. Adults will gear up for water tasks as well with pressure-washing and other projects to ensure everything sparkles under the summer sun. Recognizing the need for relief from the summer heat, there are indoor activities planned as well. We look forward to seeing you there!
