One of our goals here at NEMA is to give you more opportunity for informal professional development. And to meet that goal, we present "Lunch With NEMA," a FREE monthly conversation from noon - 1 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. Each month will highlight a different discussion topic.

Here are the details for the June and July installments of "Lunch With NEMA":

WHEN:  Wednesday, June 26, Noon - 1 pm
WHAT: Some Thoughts on Creating a Sound Investment Policy
WHO: Deborah Dillon Pearce, Vice President & Director of Nonprofit Services, Cambridge Appleton Trust
FORMAT: Web conference

Critical to the success of a nonprofit's endowment is a clear and articulate investment policy. It is the road map as to how the funds will be managed. It is the fiduciary responsibility of a board to insure that its funds are handled in accordance with good practice. The investment policy lays out the asset allocation, the risk tolerance and the quality of the assets. An investment policy also insures that the endowment is managed in accordance with the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act. Additionally, it provides the benchmarks against which the investment manager should be measured.

Mark your calendar: July Lunch w/ NEMA
WHEN:  Wednesday, July 31, Noon - 1 pm
WHAT: "Oh Rats": Integrated Pest Management
WHO: Adam Osgood, Collections Technician, Collections and Conservation Center, Historic New England
FORMAT: Web conference

Adam Osgood, Collections Technician for Historic New England will moderate a discussion on the best practices and applications of Integrated Pest Management. Adam oversees IPM at Historic New England's Historic House Museums as well as its collections facility and is in charge of addressing invertebrate or insect related infestations for the institution. Adam will give a brief, introductory PowerPoint presentation used in training staff at his institution as a starting point for a more in depth conversation about what specific challenges IPM presents and how to address them. He has encountered a variety of circumstances in his time working at Historic New England and looks forward to sharing what he has learned as well as opening the discussion to questions and contributions. Adam also runs the CO2 fumigation or Controlled Atmospheric Treatment service (also provided to outside clients) at the Haverhill collection and conservation facility and would be happy to discuss how this treatment is an effective and non-toxic means of remediating infested museum objects.
