THE COST OF EBOOKS

Did you know that offering eBooks and eAudiobooks is a costly challenge for libraries? Unlike physical books, which libraries purchase and retain indefinitely, e-titles must be licensed from publishers for a limited time (typically 2 years) or number of checkouts (26). In addition, library licenses for eBooks are considerably more expensive than purchasing hard copies. The Redwood City Library Foundation recently published an article about the challenges libraries face in offering eBooks to our communities. The piece offers some ways you can help advocate for improved access to eBooks. Read it here

SUMMER STEAM AT THE LIBRARY

Drop in at the Downtown Makerspace for Summer STEAM at the Library on Mondays, 3:30-5:30pm, starting next week! Each week explore a different area of STEAM with hands on activities.

On Monday, June 17, join scientists from EAG Laboratories to investigate small objects and structures using a microscope. There will be microscopes available and guessing boxes. Can you identify common objects at a high magnification?
