Planting Season

As planting season unfolds, we kindly remind all residents to exercise caution and extend courtesy to farm equipment operators traveling on our roads. Please remain patient and mindful when encountering farm equipment on the roads, as they may travel at slower speeds. Keep a safe distance when passing and refrain from any sudden maneuvers. Let's work together to ensure everyone's safety during this busy time for our local farmers.

Watering Schedules for 2024

Water is a limited resource in our dry climate and watering schedules have been a proven method of conservation, efficient irrigation, and demand management. In response to this need, Johnstown has implemented mandatory watering schedules aimed at maximizing water efficiency.

Effective immediately and running until October 15, 2024, these water schedules are designed to optimize irrigation practices. Help by updating your sprinkler schedule.

Schedule:

• Odd Number Addresses: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

• Even Number Addresses, HOAs, and greenbelts: Tuesdays,

Thursdays, and Saturdays

• Watering day schedule: 12am-10am and 6pm-11:59pm

• No irrigation on Sundays

Newly planted grass/lawn: For residents looking to introduce new grass,

a permit from the Town is required. Have questions? Reach out to the

Utilities Department at 970-587-4664.

April 2024 Business of the Month

Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, Johnstown's Business of the Month, has been serving up chef-driven burgers, chopped salads, and artisan sandwiches since 2017. This recognition is a testament to their commitment to excellence and their impact on our local community!

Special Events and Food Trucks

Organizing a special event in town involves securing permits and adhering to regulations to ensure smooth proceedings. Special Event Permits (SEPs) are mandatory for gatherings impacting public spaces like streets or sidewalks. Key points to note include submitting applications 45 days prior to the event, paying a $100 fee, and posting the permit visibly during the event. Additionally, organizers planning to serve alcohol must submit a separate Liquor Special Event Application. By understanding and following these procedures, organizers can ensure compliance and facilitate safe and successful events in town.

In Johnstown's thriving food truck scene, obtaining a Johnstown Mobile Vendor License is crucial for trucks operating beyond Special Event Permits. This annual license requires a $50 fee and expires on December 31st each year.

Summer Programs

As the spring transitions into summer, residents can expect dedicated crews focusing on the following programs. Please note the ongoing nature of these initiatives, and exercise caution in construction zones, and extend understanding towards crews working in public areas to enhance your experience in Johnstown!

Mosquito Management with VDCI - Vector Disease Control International is the contracted provider for mosquito mitigation services. VDCI collaborates with Johnstown, and typically commences mosquito trap surveillance in May, followed by fogging operations as needed, starting in June. Schedules will be added to the Town's website when announced.

Pavement Management - Although the Town Public Works department engages in pavement management throughout the year, the improved weather allows crews to initiate work on specific roads as outlined in the Town’s pavement management plan. If you encounter crews on the road, please drive with caution.

Street Cleaning/Sweeping - The Town Public Works will be out and about for

spring and summer street sweeping. Please remain alert for any new signage indicating temporary parking restrictions aimed at facilitating street cleaning, particularly along Parish Ave south of Hwy 60.

Concrete Repair Program - The Public Works Department has launched the 2024 Concrete Repair Project to replace curbs and gutters in many subdivisions throughout the summer. Affected residents can expect to receive a doorhanger notifying of work in the area prior to any work being completed. The following subdivisions can expect to see small concrete work in targeted areas: Country Acres, Johnstown Colony, Johnstown Heights, Johnstown Farms, Pioneer Ridge, Rocksbury Ridge, Rolling Hills Ranch, The Landings, and Thompson River Ranch. This work will be scheduled throughout the summer months. Questions? Contact the Public Works Department at 970-587-4664.

Hydrant Flushing - Water distribution crews will be opening fire hydrants

and flushing at full volume. Annual hydrant flushing keeps the interior of pipes clean, improves water quality, and ensures hydrant operation. Flushing may cause

discoloration in your home. If you experience discoloration, please allow water to run for a few minutes until it clears.

Have any questions? Contact the Utilities Department at

970-587-4664.
