Your Johnstown Newsletter March 2023 Issue

Is the Town trying to get in touch with you?

The Town could be reaching out to residents regarding a number of things from area road construction to water meter replacement. The Town will do this by either sending you verified USPS mail with Town branding, stopping by in person with a branded door hang, or giving you a call at the phone number that you provided with your utilities.

Why is this important?

It is important to engage when the Town reaches out because the Town conducts government business that serves YOU, such as street or infrastructure repairs, maintenance of Town equipment, and managing the operation of your day to day utilities. The Town is likely reaching out to coordinate details with you or gather your input.

Recent Outreach - Home Water Meter Replacement

Recent outreach regarding water meter replacement is an example of the Town getting in touch with residents to improve the quality of service at the home. As time passes, equipment, like water meters age and become less reliable. When this happens, it is important to replace the water meter so that it can communicate properly with the meter reading system. If the Town has reached out to you about water meter replacement, we encourage you to give us a call to set up an appointment so that we can install the newest equipment for you.

Carlson Blvd and Hwy 60 Traffic Signal: Project Update

Intersection improvements are on their way for the intersection of Hwy 60 and Carlson Blvd. These improvements include a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing. Notably, this project will help mitigate the intense traffic at the intersection as a result of growing neighborhoods and the two new schools built in the area. The traffic signal design is complete and plans have been approved by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for the Hwy 60 and Carlson Blvd intersection. The Town is currently out to bid for the contractor of the project but has already ordered the equipment due to long lead times on this type of equipment. The Town is actively working on safer and friendlier transportation along the Hwy 60 corridor in partnership with CDOT and Weld County (in areas). Recommendations for future improvements related to many of the Hwy 60 pain points can be found in the Hwy 60 Feasibility study completed last winter at johnstownco.gov/CIProjects.

South Water Tank: Project Update

The South Water Tank has changed a lot since a year ago. This time last year, residents were able to drive CR 17 and see the tall candy cane structure (derrick crane) just to the west of CR 17 and north of CR 40. The tank and its partner project, the South Tank mainline, were started in late summer 2021 and are nearing completion this year. You can see the tank in its many phases below, but something that you cannot see is the near 35,000 linear feet of pipeline that has been installed to connect this water tank to the water treatment plant near HWY 60 and CO Blvd. While utilities crews work hard every single day to bring quality water and sewer services to Johnstown homes and businesses, large infrastructure projects like this are built over the course of a few years and aim to further improve and provide service for current and future residents of the Town.

Letford Elementary School Demolition: Project Update

Letford Elementary School is in the process of demolition, which includes the building, the foundation, and full grading of the area upon completion of the demolition. While the project is well underway, crews

will continue to work throughout the month of March,

including Saturdays. When the ground is clear, the space will become a beautiful new neighborhood park with recreational amenities. At this time, there is no dedicated plan for what the Letford property park will look like, but Town Administration is dedicating this year to understanding the asks of the community related to recreation and plans to reach out to residents for input as the planning phase for this property begins.

Don’t let them run off! Leash your dog when out in public!

Last month we talked about licensing your pet, which can be an important way to recover a lost pet. Another way to avoid a rogue pet altogether is to make sure your dog is always leashed up. While leashing your dog can save you from having to search for your fur baby all morning, it is also Municipal Code to keep your dog leashed (10 feet or less) when out in public or off of private property for the safety of Fur-Friend, you, and others in the community. Check out Section 7-122 to learn more about required control of your pet in public. Municipal Code can be found at johnstown.colorado.gov/MunicipalCode.
