Love is in the air and that means...

It's almost nesting season!

It's time to start planning for those turtle mamas to return to our Keys beaches to do their nesting! We need to make sure that we all pitch in to keep our beaches CLEAN, DARK and FLAT!

Trash washes up on the Florida beaches daily. Please help us make the beaches safe for nesting mama turtles and for babies racing to the ocean. Official beach clean-ups are conducted periodically throughout the year, but you can help every time you’re at the beach by picking up the trash and plastics that you see.

Save-A-Turtle also partners with Coastlove for clean-ups throughout the entire Florida Keys. You can click here to join an upcoming event with this amazing organization.

SAT WAS HERE! Lower Keys Nautical Expo!

We attended the Big Pine & Lower Keys Nautical Expo on January 14th and 15th. As always, it was a fantastic event and we talked turtles with lots of wonderful people. Big thanks to the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce for this event!

This bears repeating...

PLEASE Slow Down and Look Out!

It's an all too common occurrence when boats and marine animals meet on the water... boat strikes. There have been two that resulted in turtle deaths (that we are aware of) just in the last few days!

One way that you can help protect marine life when you’re out enjoying the waterways is to have a designated marine animal spotter on board whenever possible. Somebody that is looking out constantly for the dolphins, manatees and sea turtles that may be found in our waterways.

Additionally, please make sure you’re following slow speed and no wake signs.

If you happen to encounter an injured marine animal while you’re enjoying your boating time or out on the beach in Florida, please call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
