Happy Easter!

The resurrection means that there is hope, that things that may appear dead in our lives or our relationships can be awakened. God has the power to resurrect and restore your life and your relationship! We can participate in the process by learning how to love one another. Gary Chapman in his book, The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate teaches us that there are five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. Let's start trying to show and give love to one another in the way that we each receive love. We recommend that you get a copy of the book, discuss the ways you receive love and commit to trying to express love in the way your significant other says they receive love. Sherman's primary love language is Words of Affirmation and mine is Acts of Service. Some of you may be so blessed as to have a life partner who receives love in the way that it comes natural for you to express it. Some of us have to work hard:) I am a woman of few words, but my husband needs to hear my words, so over the years I have learned to seek opportunities to compliment my husband, verbally express my appreciation for the things that he does for me, and verbally acknowledge his talents and skills. We often laugh because Sherman is a talker and is constantly giving me Words of Affirmation, but at times I have to say, "Thank you, Honey, but I'm Acts of Service- did you start the laundry for me?" Getting the laundry started, dinner started, taking my car for an oil change are the things that I need for him to do, for me to feel loved. And, he does a wonderful job with Acts of Service with prompts; however, the Words of Affirmation come naturally because it's his love language.

Let's focus on speaking the right love language.

Let's focus on loving and valuing each other above ourselves.

  • Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, rather in humility value others above yourself (Philippians 2:3).
  • Be devoted to one another in love; honor one another above yourselves (Romans 12:10)

We can't wait to hear about your attempts to speak the correct Love Language.

Yours in Christ,

Affordable counseling services at a local university in RTP. Please share with your ministry leads or those interested. Customers pay $30 for 50 minute sessions. I am not familiar with the counselors, but the cost is reasonable and they use American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Codes of Ethical Principles for Marriage and Family Therapists in the provision of direct and indirect services.
