Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

Welcome to Catholic Schools Week. We have a full week planned this week and hopefully capture what makes Catholic education at OLOL meaningful and fulfilling.

I wish to thank all families that attended the 10:15 Mass on Sunday. We had great representation and it made me proud of our community. The parish supports us so much and this is our way of giving back.

Thank you to all that furnished picture and testimonials about our school. I was overwhelmed with the support so many of our families give to our school. As I mentioned on Sunday at Mass, there is no possible way I am ever going to give back to you what our families had provided me over the years. You have transformed my life in ways that you can’t even believe. I hope that in some small way I can do that for our students, families, and staff. It is a joy and privilege to serve this community

During Catholic Schools Week the enrollment fee for families is $50. If you plan on returning next year, please take a few minutes this week and get registered. I was very excited about the tours I gave prior to Catholic Schools Week. We have already enrolled 2 new families that have children in multiple grades. Last year we added students in each grade. My goal this year is that we are adding multiple students in each grade. It is a very exciting time for OLOL.

Just a reminder that the Lenten Dinner and carnival are early this year. It will be held on Friday, February 16th. The 8th grade families would like your help in making the carnival a success. If you have any prizes or candy we would love to have you donate them to the cause. Please see the attached flier for all of the information.

“First and foremost every Catholic educational institution is a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth” - Pope Francis

Jeffrey Young - Principal

Thank You ...

Thank you to the OLOL families who purchased tickets and attended the Green Bay Gamblers Hockey game on January 27.

Our very own Mr. Young participated in the Dash for Cash in a game of musical chairs.

As a result of OLOL ticket sales and Dash for Cash, Our Lady of Lourdes School earned $479!

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mark 1:29-39

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

On leaving the synagogue

Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.

Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.

They immediately told him about her.

He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.

Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset,

they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.

The whole town was gathered at the door.

He cured many who were sick with various diseases,

and he drove out many demons,

not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn, he left

and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.

Simon and those who were with him pursued him

and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you."

He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages

that I may preach there also.

For this purpose have I come."

So he went into their synagogues,

preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.

Wisconsin Tax Deduction for

Tuition Expense

Tax legislation signed into law gives Wisconsin taxpayers the opportunity to deduct private school tuition expenses from their taxable income. A subtraction from income is allowed for tuition expenses that are paid for any of the GRACE schools. Parents/guardians are eligible for a maximum deduction of $4,000 per child in grades K-8 and $10,000 per child in grades 9-12. Students transitioning from eighth to ninth grade are eligible for both deductions. Per state guidance, any amount spent on tuition and book fees are eligible for the deduction. Book fees include digital books, such as laptops or tablet fees issued by the school.

Tuition information for tax preparation is available to GRACE families online via GRACE’s enrollment management system, TADS
