Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope everyone has had a chance to defrost from the cold weather last week. There is almost nothing worse that having a week of indoor recess. That should all be behind us now and we can start thinking about warmer weather.

Catholic Schools Week is next week. It is an extremely busy week as we try to incorporate all the different types of learning that we do here at OLOL. I’m asking that all OLOL students and families attend the 10:15AM Mass on Sunday 28th. This is the best way to say thank you to the OLOL Parish for supporting our school. We still have room in the church choir for any student.

Our service day will be Monday and all of our students are going to be spending time at Rennes serving our community. We always like to focus on our students, so Tuesday we are having our “fun” field trip to Urban Air. We went 3 years ago and the students really enjoyed it so we are going back. Our regular Wednesday School Mass will be at St. Norbert Abbey at 11:00AM. We moved the time so students can eat lunch at The Abbey and take a tour with Fr. Jim. We wrap up CSW with the student talent show and Family Dance on Friday.

Catholic Schools Week also means it is time to enroll for the 2024-2025 school year. The enrollment link will be sent to you on Friday, January 26th. Enrolling during Catholic Schools Week means a $50 enrollment fee for your family. That fee increases after February 3rd. We would appreciate that if you are returning to OLOL that you enroll during the week of January 26th

I also ask that if you have any questions about the education your son or daughter are receiving that you reach out to me. I haven’t changed my primary philosophies of education in the 11 years that I have been principal. That is, the school and parents need to be partners on the educational journey. I love to solve problems and have discussions about education. No problem is too small or too big. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Please mark your calendar for the OLOL Fish Dinner on Friday, February 16th. The 8th grade carnival will be held in the gym. The Youth Ministry group is also hosting Bingo night in the social hall. You have many different options to entertain you that evening at Lourdes.

“Education cannot be neutral. It is either positive or negative; either it enriches or it impoverishes; either it enables a person to grow or it lessons, even corrupts him. The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful.” - Pope Francis

Lectio Divina

We pray with all Catholics throughout the Green Bay Diocese

There are different ways to engage in Lectio Divina. If you are a beginner here is a process that will help you get started.

Step 1: Prepare yourself to read scripture. You will need to find a time and location where you will not be interrupted or disturbed. Ready yourself to read God’s word and see how He wants you to respond.

Step 2: Read the scripture and look for words or phrases that jump out at you.

Step 3: Reflect on those words or phrases and what they mean to you.

Step 4: Reread the scripture and spend a few moments in quiet reflection on what God is calling you to do through these words or phrases.

Step 5: Reread the scripture a third time and it is time to respond. What actions will you take after your conversation with God?

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mark 1:21-28

Daily Readings from USCCB - View here

Then they came to Capernaum,

and on the sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught.

The people were astonished at his teaching,

for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.

In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;

he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?

Have you come to destroy us?

I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

Jesus rebuked him and said,

"Quiet! Come out of him!"

The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.

All were amazed and asked one another,

"What is this?

A new teaching with authority.

He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him."

His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

Catholic School Week

Family Activity

The OLOL Staff has been busy finalizing plans for Catholic Schools Week and now we need your help!

We are asking each family to write a paragraph on why they send their children to OLOL and what they love about our

school. Please include a family picture along with your paragraph.

These can be dropped off in the school office or emailed to olloffice@gracesystem.org.

We are going to create displays in church that parishioners can read after masses during the week-end of January 27th and 28th.

We are grateful for our families and partnership with us for their children's educational journey at Lourdes. We would like to share this with OLOL Parish.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help in spreading the Good News of the Gospel and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.

** If you provide a family photo, we will return it to you after the weekend masses.

Wisconsin Tax Deduction for

Tuition Expense

Tax legislation signed into law gives Wisconsin taxpayers the opportunity to deduct private school tuition expenses from their taxable income. A subtraction from income is allowed for tuition expenses that are paid for any of the GRACE schools. Parents/guardians are eligible for a maximum deduction of $4,000 per child in grades K-8 and $10,000 per child in grades 9-12. Students transitioning from eighth to ninth grade are eligible for both deductions. Per state guidance, any amount spent on tuition and book fees are eligible for the deduction. Book fees include digital books, such as laptops or tablet fees issued by the school.

Tuition information for tax preparation is available to GRACE families online via GRACE’s enrollment management system, TADS
