A Lenten Meditation and Reflection

During Lent, we are called to seek not only our own relief from that which is uncomfortable and unfamiliar, but to seek the relief of the weak, the poor, the sick, the marginalized, and the destitute. We must remember that the love of God is for all people, not just the privileged. We must strive to listen to the cries of those who cannot speak for themselves, and do what we can to help them. We must open our hearts to those in need and be a source of comfort and hope. We may not be able to solve every problem, but we can show our love and support. We can be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. In this way, we can be a living example of Christ’s love and mercy.

Prayer

A Cry for Relief and Restoration

O God of the ages and of every generation. You are Sovereign Lord, and Creator of all that exists. We continue to call unto you from the depths of our grief, pain, and sorrow. We languish in our feeble attempts to heal ourselves and to make right all that is wrong within the world and within us. All of nature is crying out for deliverance and restoration. We are forced to acknowledge that we are unable to help or heal ourselves. We seek justice but are unjust to our neighbors. We desire mercy but withhold it from our own kindred. We cry out for righteousness but harbored unkindness and malice in our hearts.

Deliver us, O God, not only from the enemy of our souls but from the enemy within us. Help us to seek not just our own relief from that which is uncomfortable and unfamiliar,  but to earnestly hear the cries and seek the relief of the weak, the poor, the sick, the marginalized and the destitute among us.

Lord, You are the God who heard and answered the prayers and petitions of our ancestors. You are our Deliverer and Restorer of the breach. Help us to see Your hand in this present moment and in our lives. O Great God, Jehovah Rapha - Healer of our brokenness, break through our darkness with Your marvelous healing light of love, bring forth Your healing, grace, peace and justice among the nations. May Your name be forever praised and given glory and honor among all people. Amen and Ase’.

The Meaning of Lent

Lent is a period of about six weeks before Resurrection Sunday, which for Christians is a time of fasting, prayer, repentance, and self-reflection. It is a time to reflect on how we can be better people and to focus on spiritual growth. During this period, Christians practice self-denial as a way to focus on spiritual matters and draw closer to God. The purpose of Lent is to prepare Christians for the joyous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. It is also a time to acknowledge our sinful nature, repent of our sins, and recommit our lives to God. By spending time in prayer and meditation, we can renew our spiritual lives and prepare ourselves to give thanks for the gift of salvation. Lent is also a time to serve others and show God’s love by our actions.
