Prescription Drug Disposal
The fight against opioid addiction starts at home; unused or expired medications are one of the contributing factors that can lead to a prescription opioid addiction. A majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends and often from the home's medicine cabinet.

It is up to all of us to dispose of our prescription drugs correctly. Never flush them and don’t keep them if they aren’t medication you are currently prescribed.

If you have prescription and non-prescription drugs in your house that need to be discarded, most police departments in Lake County accept them.

Flood Insurance
Property owners residing in unincorporated Lake County may be eligible to save an average of $271 a year on their flood insurance policies. Currently, there are more than 1,014 flood insurance policies in unincorporated Lake County. Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) program, residents within unincorporated Lake County – who meet certain requirements – are eligible for up 20% savings on flood insurance premiums. This results in a potential annual total savings of $274,899 overall for residents across the county. Property owners should contact their flood insurance agent to obtain individual savings information.
Medicare Scam
Medicare will start sending out cards next year without social security numbers- all in an effort to prevent identity theft.

Scammers are taking advantage of this upcoming change, especially right now at the start of Medicare Open Enrollment.

The caller says they are from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and they need to verify your personal information in order to receive a new card.

Other versions of the scam claim you need to pay for your new card and they threaten your benefits if you don't. Medicare will never email or call asking for your personal information.

The new cards will eventually be sent to all 60 million beneficiaries starting next year and they are free of charge.

The best thing to do if you get these calls or emails is hang up and delete.
