Fourth Thursday Movie Night

Thursday, October 26, 6:45 pm, A Member's Home

Unapologetic and free-spirited Inez kidnaps her 6-year-old son, Terry, from the foster care system. They set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity and stability in a rapidly changing New York City.

The film explores a Black mother-and-son relationship rooted in unconditional love while also addressing the impact of systemic racism on urban communities. With this effort, Rockwell's screenwriting and film direction constructs a heartfelt narrative of a family's unceasing perseverance and willingness to give.

To register and receive the home address, please RSVP to (657) 235-2511 or email programs@ncjwlongbeach.org.

The November 30th movie will be Casablanca, a 1942 American romantic drama film starring  Humphrey BogartIngrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid. Filmed and set during World War II, it focuses on an American expatriate (Bogart) who must choose between his love for a woman (Bergman) and helping her husband (Henreid), a Czech resistance leader, escape from the Vichy-controlled city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Germans. Again, we'll meet at 6:45 pm.

Come Enjoy the Next HugPack Packing

We will also have a chance to write and collect notes of encouragement to place in backpacks during future packings.

Come enjoy some snacks and great camaraderie, too! We welcome one and all!

An RSVP is required by October 31: leave a message with your name at (657) 235-2511 or email communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org since a list of attendees must be turned in no later than November 1.

MOMS OC Needs Our Help

MOMS OC needs our help!

First, they need help decorating the classrooms so they are cheerful and teach infants things through colors and shapes. Come and give 2 - 3 hours helping Miss Gabby (alias Wonder Woman!) make the classrooms really special. She provides everything; she just needs our hands (no creativity necessary!). Check MOMS out at www.momsorangecounty.org!

The next decorating day is Monday, Oct. 30, or Tuesday, Oct. 31, between 9 am and 12:30 pm. The next one after that is Thursday, Nov. 30, from 3 pm to 5:50 pm or Friday, Dec. 1, from 12 - 2:30 pm. If one of those days works for you, please send us an email at communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org. We had a blast and learned so much! Long Beach folks can carpool, or you can meet us there if you are already in Orange County.

Second, MOMS also needs clothing and equipment donations, and people during the week to help sort incoming donations. Go at your leisure!

We will also start doing some fundraising for this new project, so stay tuned.

If you're interested in helping out, contact our community service VP Andrea Friedenthal at (657) 235-2511 or email her at communityservice@ncjwlongbeach.org.
