The Salvation of Henry Maxwell
by Lee Lindauer
On par with such sixties standouts as Vincent Price and Christopher Lee, Henry Maxwell’s career and stardom came to a screeching halt in 1968 after his beloved wife Lillian was found dead of a drug overdose. Devastated, the trauma ended his acting career. Now, decades later, eighty-five-year-old Maxwell lives in a fog of severe depression with recurring hallucinations. No longer in control, he believes Lillian talks to him in the garden at midnight, tempting him to join her in a loving embrace for the rest of eternity. He sees this as a final act of Salvation.
Appointed conservator of his estate by the State of California, young attorney Jessica Barrow moves into Maxwell’s mansion to monitor his ability to handle his affairs. Armed with a background in clinical psychology, her job is to learn why he behaves as he does, allowing his mansion, an out of place castle in the hills of Malibu, to fall into disrepair while his magnificent gardens go weedy and unkempt. Maxwell is not happy with the arrangement, but legally cannot do anything about her presence.
Jessica befriends David Grovene, a professor of film studies at UCLA. His interests are in old B-movies from the sixties, especially the Gothic horror era. To Grovene, canisters of vinegar-smelling celluloid are the essence of time, recorded frame by frame. His research leads him to examine a collection of old reels owned by a former film editor whose recent death appears suspicious. There, he discovers an empty canister of an unknown film titled, "Lady Julia’s Sarcophagus" and wonders if it is tied to the editor’s death.

Hard Dog's Night
by Rebecca Hendricks
In a time when rock n' roll is deemed evil music and blamed for youth rebellion, The Hound Dogs and The Dice are set to clash at the Madison Community Center.
The Hound Dogs search for a drummer to complete their lineup while The Dice hires Patrick McNeil as Danny Bruer's replacement. Unbeknownst to The Dice, Patrick carries a hidden agenda to sabotage his former band and settle old scores.
As Patrick and his accomplice, Stu, execute their plot, questions loom over the Madison Community Center. Can The Hound Dogs triumph against the odds? Will the controversy ignite a community torn between tradition and rebellion?
In a world where rock n' roll rebels against societal norms, the destinies of two bands hang in precarious balance. The echoes of their battle will resonate far beyond the Madison Community Center.
Hard Dog’s Night, the second book in The Hound Dogs series, is a unique blend of historical fiction, coming-of-age, and the power of music as it forever alters lives in the name of rock n' roll.

The Last Decade of Cinema
by Scott Ryan
Ah, the nineties. Movies were something in those days. We’re talking about a decade that began with GoodFellas and ended with Magnolia, with such films as Malcolm X, Before Sunrise, and Clueless arriving somewhere in between. Stories, characters, and writing were king; IP, franchise movies, and supersaturated superhero flicks were still years away. Or so says Scott Ryan, the iconoclastic author of The Last Days of Letterman and Moonlighting: An Oral History, who turns his attention here to The Last Decade of Cinema—the prolific 1990s.
Ryan, who watched just about every film released during the decade when he was a video store clerk in a small town in Ohio, identifies fifty-five unique and varied films from the decade, including Pretty Woman, Pulp Fiction, Menace II Society, The Prince of Tides, and The Shawshank Redemption, focusing with his trademark humor and insight on what made them classics and why they could never be produced in today’s film culture. The book also includes interviews with writers, directors, and actors from the era.
Go back to the time of VCR’s, DVD rentals, and movies that mattered. Turn off your streaming services, put down your phones, delete your Twitter account, and take a look back at the nineties with your Eyes Wide Shut, a White Russian in your hand, and yell “Hasta la vista, baby” to today’s meaningless entertainment. Revel in the risk-taking brilliance of Quentin Tarantino, Amy Heckerling, Spike Lee, Robert Altman, Paul Thomas Anderson, and others in Scott Ryan’s magnum opus, The Last Decade of Cinema.
