Indian Creek TOD Zoning Approved | |

The Indian Creek Station Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Master Plan is an opportunity to transform the end-of-line station into a transit-oriented community that connects people to opportunity, drives sustainable community development, and promotes regional prosperity.
The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved the application to rezone the 64 acres that encompass Indian Creek Station to MU-4 (mixed-use high density.) This accomplishment would not have been possible without the robust community engagement seen for the project, as well as feedback from different stakeholders and organizations.
The next steps for the project include selecting private for the development phase.

PathLink Wayfinding Public Meeting | |

We are excited to announce that on Thursday, June 13th, we will be holding a public meeting for the PathLink initiative at 6:00 PM at Georgia Piedmont Technical College at 495 N Indian Creek Dr, Clarkston, GA 30021. During the meeting, we will present an overview of the PathLink initiative, outlining our project goals and objectives. This is a valuable opportunity for residents to learn more about PathLink and the Stone Mountain Trail.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback as community input is essential for shaping the direction and success of this project. Please join us to engage in meaningful discussions, ask questions, and contribute to the future of PathLink. Your voice matters, and we look forward to your valuable contributions!

McNair Community 101 Public Event
The DeKalb Community Academy (DCA) is an initiative aimed at empowering communities and fostering partnerships through education on policy, zoning, land-use, and other planning-related matters. The Academy will eventually serve 18 neighborhood districts in total through a series of trainings and educational resources.
The first area targeted with this initiative is the McNair School District with the first DCA program, Community 101. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, July 18th from 6 PM - 8 PM at the N.H. Scott Recreation Center (2230 Tilson Rd, Decatur, GA 30032.)

CHaRM DeKalb Grand Opening June 7
Date: Friday, June 7, 2024

DeKalb County has transformed Belvedere Park into a new recycling facility, the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). The new center will officially open on June 12 and is a program of the nonprofit, Live Thrive. It is a permanent drop-off facility that aims to improve our environmental health by encouraging reuse and diverting thousands of pounds of household hazardous waste and other hard-to-recycle items from landfills.
CHaRM DeKalb will operate on alternating dates to their CHaRM Atlanta location.
Open Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 AM - 2 PM. Appointment only.

DeKalb County has collaborated with Trees Atlanta to provide residents of unincorporated DeKalb County with trees for their front yards!

As part of widespread efforts to improve sustainability in DeKalb County under the Clean Energy Transition Plan, Southface Institute, an Atlanta-based sustainable building nonprofit, is developing an extensive energy transition plan to steer the county towards a future of 100% clean energy.

ALERT: Five Points Station Transformation
MARTA is set to begin the first phase of the Five Points Transformation Project in July, which will transform the station into a vibrant city center, with improved transit connectivity, increased safety, and enhanced customer amenities. Built in the ‘70’s, Five Points is MARTA’s largest and busiest rail station and the connecting point for all four rail lines.
The first phase of the Five Points Transformation Project is the deconstruction of the Brutalist canopy, an enormous concrete structure that will need to be meticulously taken apart and removed. This work will have major service impacts to downtown bus routes and street-level access to Five Points for approximately 18 months. Rail service at Five Points is not impacted and will operate normally. More information can be found below.

ALERT: MARTA East Lake Station
See MARTA’s renewed focus on Service, Experience, and Expansion or SEE.
SEE improved accessibility and safety at East Lake Station as MARTA replaces the north pedestrian bridge.
The north pedestrian bridge and north parking lot at East Lake Station will be CLOSED from March 15 to October 2024 for construction. Customers must use the south parking lot and south pedestrian bridge. Station Soccer will remain open.

Thank you for your Service!
After 27 years of service, the Long Range Planning Manager, Sylvia Smith retired from DeKalb County. Sylvia began her work with the County under the Roads & Drainage Division in Public Works, before moving to the Transportation Division.
When the Long Range Planning team was created, Sylvia Smith was recruited as the Principal Engineer, before being promoted to Transportation Planning Administrator and finally, the Long Range Planning Manager.
While no longer with the county, Sylvia Smith is not done with improving communities. Her next venture is as the Director of Community Affairs for the city of McDonough. Our team wishes her well on her new journey!
