On Thursday, July 18th, the DeKalb Community Academy initiative held its first McNair Community 101 public meeting at the NH Scott Recreation Center. Over 20 interested community members attended the meeting and provided invaluable feedback and comments for our team. There will be a follow-up meeting held later this year that will address community feedback and launch the Community Ambassador program.

Redan Road Corridor Scoping Study | |

DeKalb County is identifying opportunities to transform the Redan Road corridor from a two-lane street to one that accommodates walking, biking, transit, cars and trucks with improved traffic operations and safety, that supports existing users, economic development, and the planned I-285 Express Lane access.
The purpose of the scoping study is to identify transportation infrastructure projects that meet community goals and objectives and can be presented to state and regional partners for funding partnerships.
The study includes Redan Road from Kensington Road/Holcombe Road to South Hairston Road.
The final public meeting was held on August 6, 2024. A copy of the presentation and the public survey are available on the project website. The survey closes on August 30, 2024.

I-285 Express Lanes Transit Study | |

We are excited to announce the launch of the I-285 Express Lanes Transit study, a regional collaboration that explores how new express lanes along the I-285 corridor could be used to provide a premium transit service, enhancing connectivity and transportation options in the Atlanta region.
The study area extends along I-285 between the I-20 east and west interchanges, spanning from H.E. Holmes to Indian Creek MARTA stations. By leveraging the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)’s planned Express Lanes project, this study will explore ways to improve accessibility and on-time performance of transit for residents and commuters.

DeKalb County has collaborated with Trees Atlanta to provide residents of unincorporated DeKalb County with trees for their front yards!
Applications are currently closed for unincorporated DeKalb County. Stay tuned for the new application cycle.

As part of widespread efforts to improve sustainability in DeKalb County under the Clean Energy Transition Plan, Southface Institute, an Atlanta-based sustainable building nonprofit, is developing an extensive energy transition plan to steer the county towards a future of 100% clean energy.

ALERT: MARTA East Lake Station
See MARTA’s renewed focus on Service, Experience, and Expansion or SEE.SEE improved accessibility and safety at East Lake Station as MARTA replaces the north pedestrian bridge.
The north pedestrian bridge and north parking lot at East Lake Station will be CLOSED from March 15 to October 2024 for construction. Customers must use the south parking lot and south pedestrian bridge. Station Soccer will remain open.

Congratulations to Our New Planning Manager!
The Long Range Planning Division is proud to announce that Larry Washington is our new Planning Manager! Mr. Washington has been with DeKalb County since 2015, starting as a Senior Planner for the Long Range Division. He was promoted to Planning Administrator in 2021 and through his continued dedication and hard work, has achieved the esteemed position of Planning Manager.
Our team is excited to continue serving DeKalb County under Larry Washington's leadership.
