We had a very encouraging External Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday, and came away with many useful suggestions as we gear up for our CCSG Site Visit on September 12. Another group of external advisors will hear our revised presentations on September 1.

 

Many of us see the cancer center as a home for cancer research. It is. Others view it as a home for cancer patient care. Of course, that is true as well. However, I have been and remain convinced that Georgetown Lombardi’s efforts in Community Outreach and Engagement define the range around which our final score will be determined. Moreover, I believe that this is as it should be.

Deadline Approaching: 2023 Georgetown Lombardi Developmental Funds Request for Applications

 

Two grant opportunities designed to provide developmental funds are available for the initiation of promising new cancer-related projects leading to peer-reviewed funding and/or high-impact publications. Developmental funds support basic, translational, clinical, and population science research, as well as the center’s Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) activities, by providing opportunities to investigate innovative research with an emphasis on strategic priorities for multi-PI collaboration across Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Proposals are due by September 1 and projects must begin no later than January 15, 2024. Read the request for applications and apply here.

Call for Applications: CRI Postdoctoral Fellowships



Candidates may apply under three tracks of Cancer Research Institute (CRI) postdoctoral fellowship:

  • CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
  • CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity
  • CRI Immuno-Informatics Postdoctoral Fellowships


Each provides critical financial support and continued career training to the most promising young scientists in basic and tumor immunology. Awards provide $228,000 over three years plus $15,000 in institutional allowance and additional support for fellows to attend CRI’s annual International Cancer Immunotherapy Conference (CICON) and its new Bioinformatics Bootcamp. Federal Pancreatic Cancer Funding Opportunities

 

The Pancreatic Cancer Research Program (PCARP), part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, has released its fiscal year 2023 funding opportunities. The mission of the PCARP is to promote rigorous, innovative, high-impact research that leads to earlier pancreatic cancer diagnosis, new therapeutic tools, and improved outcomes. Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation 2023 Medical Research Awards
 
Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation funds promising physician scientists who are applying novel and state-of-the-art techniques to address fundamental problems in the genesis and treatment of blood related cancers. Applications for this year’s grants are welcome from two junior faculty members at Georgetown Lombardi – one who is conducting mainstream or conventional research and one who is conducting complementary or integrative research. Projects will be funded for a three-year period at $75,000 per year. View grant guidelines for submission (view application as a Word doc). Electronic grant submission must be received by Friday, Sept. 15, at grants@gabriellesangels.org; three hard copies of the application must be mailed to Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation and postmarked by that date as well.

The Kidney Cancer Research Program (KCRP), part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs, has released its fiscal year 2023 funding opportunities. The KCRP focuses on issues regarding prevention, detection, treatment, including the long-term effects of kidney cancer treatment, and building capacity with next-generation investigators and resources for novel kidney cancer treatments.
