Biology Behind New Drug Used to Treat Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Uncovered
How TTP488 (azeliragon), an experimental drug, impairs aggressive, triple-negative breast cancer from metastasizing has been uncovered at the cellular level, according to Associate Professor of Oncology Barry Hudson, PhD, and additional researchers at Georgetown Lombardi working in collaboration with scientists at the University of Miami, Florida. Damon Runyon Fellowship Award
The Damon Runyon Fellowship Award supports the training of the best emerging talent as they embark upon their research careers. This funding enables them to be mentored by established investigators in leading research laboratories across the country. Applicants must have completed one or more of the following degrees or its equivalent: MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, DO. Candidates must apply for the fellowship under the guidance of a Sponsor — a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position) capable of providing mentorship to the Fellow. Awards are made to institutions for the support of the Fellow under direct supervision of the Sponsor. Candidates who have already accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship award are not eligible. View additional eligibility criteria. This four-year award provides $70,000, $72,000, $74,000 and $76,000 in stipend support for years one, two, three, and four, respectively. In addition, an annual $2,000 expense allowance is awarded to the laboratory in which the Fellow is working and can be used by the Fellow for their educational and scientific expenses. 2023 LCCC Developmental Funds Request for Applications
Two grant opportunities designed to provide developmental funds are available for the initiation of promising new cancer-related projects leading to peer-reviewed funding and/or high-impact publications. Developmental funds support basic, translational, clinical, and population science research, as well as the center’s Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC) activities, by providing opportunities to investigate innovative research with an emphasis on strategic priorities for multi-PI collaboration across the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center consortium. Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation 2023 Medical Research Awards
Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation funds promising physician scientists who are applying novel and state-of-the-art techniques to address fundamental problems in the genesis and treatment of blood related cancers. Applications for this year’s grants are welcome from two junior faculty members at Georgetown Lombardi – one who is conducting mainstream or conventional research and one who is conducting complementary or integrative research.
