Illinois Laws Regarding School Buses
With school starting we wanted to remind you of the Illinois law is for school buses that are stopped letting students on and off the bus.
The law states on two lane roadways, when a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and the stop arm extended, drivers in both directions must stop. This law also applies to public and private parking lots.
When it comes to roadways that have four or more lanes which permit at least two lanes of traffic to travel in the opposite direction, drivers must stop when proceeding in the same direction as the bus when its red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended. Drivers going in the opposite direction do not have to stop, but should exercise caution and watch out for students entering or leaving the bus.
