Village Hall Expansion Plan Takes Shape

Your Village Board of Trustees and staff have been conferring with Wold Architects of Palatine to plan the expansion of Village Hall. The overarching plan involves adding a new wing to the existing structure, extending the hall eastward. The additional space will include a new boardroom, staff offices, and meeting spaces. Construction will be done in phases, first, building the new structure, followed by moving the staff to new quarters, and lastly, renovating the existing offices as a final phase. Exterior landscaping will take place during the final phase.

Our team is working closely with the architects, Army Corps of Engineers and the Long Grove Historical Society, to retain the old world feel of the structure and historic buildings. Planning also includes mindfulness of the wetlands and foliage on the property.

Additional details will be shared in the December issue of the Bridge newsletter, our social media channels, and the Village website.

Train Horn Quiet Zones Temporarily Suspended

During Track Improvements

Neighborhoods on the east side of Long Grove will be impacted by additional train horn noise for the remainder of 2023. An inspection by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) along the CN/Metra rail line, which is home to the Lake County Quiet Zone, was deemed in need of improvements at several crossings.

Until improvements are completed at all locations, a temporary suspension of the entire Quiet Zone has been put in place. All trains are expected to sound their horns when approaching crossings. Crews are working swiftly to complete the projects, and anticipate the Quiet Zone to be reinstated by early 2024.

A map of the impacted line is available at Metra’s website.

Checker Road

Traffic Calming

For some time now residents along Checker Road have shared their concerns regarding this area being used as a “cut through,” where motorists continually exceeded speed limits through the neighborhood.

At the September 26th Board of Trustees Meeting, a vote was taken approving the installation of speed tables, devices that raise the entire wheelbase of a vehicle to reduce its speed.

In addition to the speed tables, 25 mile per hour speed limit signs were installed by Ela Township in early October. We are optimistic these changes will increase the safety of area residents. The situation will continue to be monitored to gauge progress.

At mid-month, Robert Parker Coffin Road was closed for a two-week construction project that included RPC, Archer Road and Three Lakes Drive/Court. The first lift of asphalt has been placed. The final lift of asphalt is scheduled to conclude soon, weather permitting.

The Osage Road project began October 9th. The main pipe is installed. Grading and shaping ditches, with replacement of driveway culverts remains.

Aptakisic Road –crews are working on construction of the new road base, storm sewer installation and electrical work. The contractor also plans on placing a concrete curb and gutter from Twin Oaks Boulevard to Hilltop Road. Utility relocation work by AT&T and Nicor Gas is in progress.

Ela Township Providing Thanksgiving Meals

At Thanksgiving many facing economic challenges may not have access to a complete holiday meal. Ela Township’s Health and Wellness Department is working to identify individuals or families that may have need of meal assistance. If you know of someone in need please email health@elatownship.org by November 16th.

Getting In The Holiday Spirit

Several scenes in the movie Reporting for Christmas were captured in our Village. This holiday film is about Mary Romero, an idealistic reporter assigned to cover a puff piece about a Christmas toy manufacturer over the holidays.

Learn how the charming toymaker inspires Mary to search her heart to find true happiness.

You can watch the film on Hulu, where it will be streaming exclusively throughout the holiday season, beginning November 1st . The film will also be available to rent or purchase on major TV On-Demand/Electronic Sell Through platforms, including Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, and Vudu.
