Cambodia trip focuses on women in leadership

UBCM President Jen Ford recently visited Cambodia on a knowledge-sharing trip with Cambodia’s National League of Councils. The visit is the latest initiative by UBCM through a Federation of Canadian Municipalities program aimed at supporting women in local leadership. The objectives of the program are to increase the readiness of women to get involved and lead in local governance, along with the capacity of local governments to deliver inclusive, gender-responsive services. The Pique News Magazine interviewed Ford on her return.

2023 UBCM Convention session proposals


UBCM is now accepting clinic and workshop applications for the 2023 Convention to be held in Vancouver September 18-22. Interested parties are asked to review the criteria in the Session Proposal Process and submit a proposal using the online form by June 2, 2023.

Canada Community-Building Fund renewal

UBCM staff are seeking feedback from local governments on the renewal of the Canada Community-Building Fund through two webinars to be held on May 24.

Community Excellence Awards

Applications are now being accepted for UBCM’s 2023 Community Excellence Awards. The awards recognize and celebrate UBCM members that have implemented projects or programs that demonstrate excellence in meeting the purposes of local government in B.C. The application deadline is May 19, 2023.

Deadline to submit resolutions for UBCM’s convention

UBCM members that missed the deadline to submit a resolution for consideration at the Area Association meetings may submit a resolution directly to UBCM for consideration at the 2023 Convention in September. The deadline to do so is Friday, June 30.


Please ensure the resolution has been endorsed by a Council or Board and submit it, along with any background information, to Jamee Justason, Resolutions & Policy Analyst.

New BC Register of Historic Places platform

This year, the BC Register of Historic Places will be migrating to a new database platform, “Arches”. If interested, you may register for engagement sessions on May 23 or June 7 that will demonstrate the Arches platform, and seek feedback on new features, functionalities, and processes to manage register submissions.
