What do these pictures of the Bahrs, Jollys and Wrights have in common besides the smiles?
They attended a recent Livonia Symphony Orchestra dinner and concert at Laurel Manor. An annual event that brings people together in support of the arts--in appreciation of music--and for a fun time complete with silent auction, mingling, conversation, and yes, an outstanding concert.

From China to Grand Rapids to Livonia.
|
|
Coming to Livonia November 5th through the 30th from Grand Rapids, Huaming Wang is a multi-talented artist, designer, and engineer.
His artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
His work will be exhibited at the Bennett Civic Library in the Fine Arts Gallery.
He earned his BFA in China in 2005
, then trained extensively in seal and large stone carving under Hu Qingyuan, a master in China, while also designing gardens.
He came to the United Sates eight years ago to obtain an Engineering degree at Western Michigan University, and four years ago he started graduate school for both Art and Architecture degrees at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, receiving his MFA 2018. Wang won an Asian Artist Award at ArtPrize10 in traditional Chinese Painting.
The Visual Poems exhibit is a significant factor, audiences look at paintings as though reading the poems. Huaming uses this specific history in his contemporary drawings to imply that spectators' experiences and knowledge will lead to the creation of numerous interpretations.
Using drawings as visual poems he triggers his viewers' imaginations, enabling them to get a glimpse into Wang's life and aspirations.
The Bennett Civic Center Library is located at 32777 Five Mile Road and is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

A suggestion for Livonia. Any thoughts?
|
Chris Last raises an interesting issue having posted his thoughts on Facebook about the need for beautification of entrances into Livonia, specifically Inkster and West Chicago. His point is a good one and Musings wanted to share it with our readers:
Having been a Livonia Resident for many years and watching the city grow, I am very much aware of "how things work".
Pursuing a career has taken me to other States and Countries, but being back in the town I grew up in is somewhat a level of contentment.
One of the "things" that confuses me is the level of attention based upon just where in Livonia you happen to live. That being said I am requesting that attention be brought to one of the "well traveled" roads in Livonia. At the corner of Inkster Road and West Chicago, a "first impression" point of entry, is a section of City property that is obviously being neglected.
I am aware that the City has a "Community Service Program" and would like whomever assigns tasks to this program to address this. The sidewalk has not been attended to for a very long time and the photos will speak for themselves. Not only myself recognize this, but many others share the same sediments.
It would seem to me that EVERY "main entrance" into Livonia should be an order of pride and importance and example, that shows those that travel this road realize that Livonia leaves no highly visible section unattended to. Please take a look and than take care. Thank you.

It's a start Livonia. Let's keep up the good work.
|
Just wanted to share with our friends the results of the St. Mary Mercy Hospital's drug take back event from this past weekend. Livonia residents helped clean out our medicine cabinets, taking the outdated or unused medicines to our hometown hospital, dropping off over 104 pounds of medications.
Thank you St. Mary's for the collection and thank you Livonia for responding.
Jim Baringhaus commented on the collection effort calling it "Great work! Ongoing Drug Take Back Programs should be communicated to our community.
Charlie Mahoney sums up the feelings of many with a "Thank you St Mary Mercy."

Annual tour of Seedlings a hit for young and old
|
From young children sitting mesmorized on the floor as Sheep in a Jeep author Nancy Shaw, the special guest at Seedlings' open house on Monday night, read to them, to 98 year old Alice Hosbeck touring Seedlings because she wanted to learn about braille as her sight might "need some help," the evening was a hit all around.
The kids loved hearing her read, and the adults loved the tour, finding out about the history of Seedlings and the smiles put on the faces of children around the world.
Matt Collins came early and stayed late, greeting members of the Lions Club, strong supporters of Seedlings.
There was Mayor Dennis Wright serving as official greeter for the evening with help from Kathy Ventittelli and the typewriter. All having fun as nearly 100 joined in for a tour.
Robin Whitfield was on hand representing the Livonia Symphony. Tim and June Kenny.

acknowledging the role of volunteers. Board members pitching in.
This was indeed an evening to showcase not only a non-profit but to also showcase the benefit of partnerships, with people and with the community.
Livonia is home to a marketplace of ideas that brings out the best in our volunteers while reaching out to show others how to live life to the fullest.
