Call to action: Now is the time to contact Congress to cancel Medicare cuts

If Congress fails to act, physician Medicare payments are scheduled to be cut by 4.5 percent on Jan. 1, 2023. Cuts of this magnitude would severely impede patient access to care by forcing many physician practices to stop seeing Medicare patients or shut their doors completely -- further straining practices that have remained open through the pandemic.

Time is running out to continue to protect our patients and practices by canceling Medicare cuts in their entirety. Your calls have been working – members of the Colorado congressional delegation have heard them. Please continue this momentum to ensure your voices are heard!

Have you received a RAC audit request from Medicaid?

The Colorado Medical Society has heard from member practices expressing concerns about Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) audits. While CMS does not have the resources to troubleshoot each issue for each practice, we reached out to the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) for clarification on concerns with initial hospital care service codes (99221-99223) and other general resources. If you have questions about a RAC audit, you can reach out to HCPF directly by contacting Bart Armstrong at bart.armstrong@state.co.us or Alyssa Gilger at alyssa.gilger@state.co.us.

CMS also wants to hear from you as we continue to advocate for Colorado practices. If you have received a RAC audit, reach out to Jennifer Armstrong, CMS Program Manager for Government Affairs and Communications, at jennifer_armstrong@cms.org.

ICYMI: Help CDPHE promote free training opportunities

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is asking Colorado Medical Society members and their practices to help grow the Colorado health care workforce and child care workforce by promoting free training for in-demand health care professions (CNA, EMT, MA, pharm tech, etc.) and free early childhood education courses for individuals to become certified child care professionals. This will help support upward mobility for low income Coloradans -- especially women -- seeking new career paths. Practices can print and display communications in patient waiting rooms, exam rooms, staff break rooms and other areas. Find materials here: http://hfcgo.com/assistance
