Our teachers and staff nurture, educate, and protect our children on a daily basis. They deserve our respect, appreciation, and gratitude. This week, in particular, remember to thank your child’s teachers and school staff members, such as the administrators, front office staff, paraeducators, librarian, speech therapists, resource team, psychologists, instrumental music teacher, lunch staff, bus drivers, and custodial staff to name a few. A simple thank you is always appreciated!
Sometimes, families may choose to purchase gift cards for teachers and staff members. To avoid gift card scammers, we strongly advise families to avoid purchasing gift cards at big kiosks in grocery stores and discount department stores. Instead, if you wish to purchase a gift card for someone, buy the cards stored behind a cashier OR send a gift card electronically. For example, buy Amazon gift cards directly from Amazon. Contact roomparent@liveoakpta.net with any questions.

Fifth Grade Promotion
Wed, June 5th
Parents, lets keep up Live Oak's long standing tradition of paying it forward!
Help the 5th Grade families celebrate the day! Sign up to help!
Live Oak's Fifth Grade Promotion will take place Wednesday, June 5th in the MPR. At Promotion, we celebrate our fifth graders and wish them well as they move on to 6th grade and to a different school. Please support our fifth grade families by volunteering to help.
Traditionally, Live Oak fourth grade families volunteer to help with Promotion, so our fifth grade families may enjoy the day with their students. Not only will you continue Live Oak's long standing tradition of paying it forward, you will also learn how to plan for your own child’s event.
We especially need help between 10:30 am - 12 noon with treat distribution and the photo booth. While we strongly encourage fourth grade families to help, we would greatly appreciate assistance from adults with children TK-3rd as well.
Sign up today to help at Promotion. Contact Lili at roomparent@liveoakpta.net with questions. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Food Allergy Awareness Week
Did you know that 1 in 13 kids in the United States has a food allergy? That’s about two students in every classroom. For children with food allergies, even a tiny amount of food they are allergic to can make them very sick.
Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 12-18) provides a unique opportunity to help raise awareness about food allergies and anaphylaxis. Though increased awareness, we can promote respect, safety, and inclusion of the 15 million Americans with food allergies (1 in 13 kids in the United States has a food allergy). A few facts to consider:
- Food allergy occurs when a person’s immune system mistakenly attacks a food protein. Symptoms range from mild (rashes, hives, itching) to life-threatening (trouble breathing, loss of consciousness).
- People can be allergic to any food, but there are 9 foods that cause the most reactions: milk, eggs, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, sesame, and shellfish.
-
Reactions can range from a mild response to anaphylaxis.
- Every 3 minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the Emergency Department.
