Ed Fund Updates

Greetings from Ed. Fund,

I would like to thank all the following current Education Fund members for serving Live Oak Elementary School for the school year 2023-2024.

We are happy to report that we made a lot of valuable changes in the Ed. Fund during the school year 2023-2024:

  • After multiple discussions with Mr. Fong and impacted parties, we calibrated the 2024-25 school year commitment letter based on declining enrollments for years and the Prop 28 funds. The commitment letter for the school year 2024-2025 has been reduced from $162,705 to $81,163. This translates to a much lower amount that we need to ask the parents to contribute.

  • We created @srvef.org emails to maintain and pass on all historical conversations to future members

  • We also started tracking volunteer hours for full transparency about the effort required for each role.

  • There are many other changes, such as weekly meeting with principal, website updates, transaction plans, QR codes for donations, recruitments, creating business directors for sponsors and donations etc.

I would like to personally thank every volunteer who has put in their time and effort in making the programs happen, esp. our board.

  • Joe Li (Treasurer): Joe is the only person with prior Ed. Fund committee experience, so we are super thankful.
  • Jenny Lee (Treasurer Secretary): Jenny has never been in this role and quickly stepped in to learn the bookkeeping aspect of the Ed. Fund. She has always been on top of her work.
  • Emma Castro (Recording Secretary): She stepped into the role and helped us document and maintain all monthly meeting minutes.
  • Sudha Immaneni (Corporate Match Chair): Sudha also stepped into this role without prior experience. She was one of the key members of our process improvement and helped us increase corporate matches.
  • Shikha Goyal (Auction Chair): Shikha stepped into this role without prior experience. We added over 30 new businesses to the auction list.
  • Anum Bashir (Read-A-Thon Chair): Anum is full of energy and always there to help out. She stepped into the role without prior experience. We changed the event structure and detached the reading passion and monitoring side.
  • Mr. Fong, Mr. Shui, and Ms. LeGate: I cannot thank you enough for your support throughout the year for all the events.
  • Ms. Melanie and Ms. Sandi: Without your help and support, we would not be able to run the Ed. Fund.
  • All teachers: You are the heart and soul of Live Oak Elementary school today. Ed. Fund cannot thank you enough for all your teacher experience.
  • PTA members: From day one at the walk-in registration, during all the school events, and bringing opportunities to Ed. Fund, thank you for your continuous support.
  • Wendy Sanchez and Lisa Corpus (Super power volunteer!), without your help and guidance we may not have operated this year the way we have. Tons of thank you for your time and effort.
  • Thank you so much to our event sponsors:
  • Read-A-Thon event sponsor, Mariam Sherdil (Mortgage Loan Originator) at Cal Coast Financial Corp.
  • Auction sponsor, Anil LekkyReddy (Realtor Broker) at AnilRe.

Due to my work location change, I may not be onsite at the school side as much as I would like to be to run the Ed. Fund committee at Live Oak Elementary School, so I would be stepping down next year.

I am grateful that we have Mr. Danny Bae stepping up as Ed. Fund president for the school year 2024-25. Based on our election, the following are the Ed. Fund Members for next school year.

Many important positions are still vacant. Please fill out the Volunteer interest form if you'd like to volunteer with us:

Fifth Grade Promotion: Wednesday, June 5

The Fifth Grade Promotion is a wonderful celebration of our fifth-grade students' accomplishments, and it is attended by parents and staff. This year's event will take place on Wednesday, June 5th. Fourth grade parents/guardians traditionally help with the event itself, so our fifth-grade families may enjoy the day with their students.

Measure E&F are now in Mailboxes!

Parents play a key role in passing Measures E & F!

The first report from the elections office shows that 90% of parents have not voted yet. Does this surprise you given that we parents and our children have the most at stake in this special election?

You should also know that the most consistent voters are those over 65, who don’t have kids in school. This is why it is so important that each of us parents who can vote do vote!

Please find your ballot and complete it TODAY! Then drop it in a mailbox (no stamp required) or in one of the secure official ballot dropboxes

Measures E and F will provide stable, locally controlled funding that is needed to protect the high-quality education our community expects and our students deserve.

Measure E renews expiring funding that keeps excellent teachers and award-winning academic programs in our local schools. This locally-controlled voter-approved funding currently funds 56 teaching positions across the district. Our schools have relied on this supplementary funding for the last 20 years. If not renewed by Measure E, it will expire and those positions will have to be eliminated or other significant cuts made.

Measure F is an additional assessment that would fill the gap created by the loss of one-time state funding that was provided to address student learning loss and social-emotional well-being. The system of support to address students’ academic and social-emotional needs that was implemented with these funds at each of the schools has proven to be invaluable, and so the district is asking for the local community’s help to sustain it by passing Measure F. If Measure F does not pass, these critically important support services for our most vulnerable students are at risk of drastic cuts.
