March Little Hornet Newsletter

STEM Night Success

We had an outstanding turnout for our district-wide STEM Night on March 14th! Around 1,330 students, family members, and community members joined in on the fun! Thanks for helping to make learning come alive for our students!

Amazing Family Engagement

For our Spring Conferences in March we once again had a spectacular turnout! 95% of our families partnered with our teachers to celebrate the growth and successes of our students. We are so thankful for your engagement and know how important this is for each one of our students!

Our Hive

Keep encouraging your child(ren) to earn Buzzing Grams by Being Safe, Being Kind & Being a Learner! These Buzzing Grams can be earned all over Liberty including the lunchroom and bus! We are working together to fill our giant HIVE in our office to earn another whole school reward before it is summer!

Celebrating Our Learning

Early Childhood

The Snow finally came! Our students have enjoyed the last bits of winter in ECFE and Little Learners.

ECFE put on their annual Rise and Shine event this weekend! Thank you to all the families who attended:)

Little Learners has been studying plants and learning vocabulary words such as seed and stem.

In April Little Learners will also be planting their very own sunflowers. Registration for Summer Explorers, ECFE in the Park, and other fun classes opens up April 5th.

Check it out in the Community Education Catalog.

Kindergarten

This month our Kindergartners got to hit the road and take a field trip to Eastman Nature Center. They tapped Maple Trees, collected sap, learned how sap is boiled down to make syrup, and even further to make maple sugar! Yum, it was delicious! This was such a great learning opportunity for us all. Thanks to the PTO and Spud Fest for funding this trip!

At school we were busy learning about digraphs like ch, sh, th, and qu. We also learned all about the seasons and weather.

In April, we look forward to beginning our ABC Celebration. We have planned 26 days of activities, beginning with A and ending with Z on our last school day.

1st Grade

In March, first grade students had a memorable month filled with exciting activities. They participated in STEM Night, where they explored various STEM activities and concepts. They also learned about the moon phases, deepening their understanding of science. Additionally, the students shared their timeline projects, at home with their families and in class with their peers.

In April, our students are excited to explore animal habitats, gaining an understanding of where different animals live and how they adapt to their environments.

2nd Grade

In March, second graders grew their knowledge in the topics of Westward Expansion and Insects. They learned a lot about grammar and had fun exploring the STEM Night activities.

Looking forward to April, students will be reading about the Civil War and its importance. We will learn to spell and read words with the schwa vowel sound as well. We will continue practicing for our first-ever musical with Ms. Hoover and discover many of our peers' hidden talents.

Parenting Points

With the weather changing, our kids have had great opportunities to practice healthy risk-taking. Our children need to take risks in order to know what their own bodies are capable of. Our job as a parent is to assess that risk. If there is a low chance of injury, let your child try. When we say things like, “Be Careful, you're going to fall!”, we are telling our child not to trust their body. When we say things like, “What is your plan for getting up there?”, we can be encouraging and also teach them problem-solving skills. If you find yourself using the words, “Be Careful!”, please check out these Alternatives to Saying “Be Careful.”

Kindergarten Registration for the 24-25 School Year is OPEN!

Please encourage any family with a future kindergartener to register today! If students have a summer birthday and need a little more support, call our Liberty Office and inquire about Transitional Kindergarten. We are well on our way to planning for next year, and having a handle on our registration will allow us to accurately staff to support all of our students.
