April Little Hornet Newsletter

Whole School Celebration...Great Job Little Hornets!

Liberty students have been working hard to follow our Little Hornet Way by being safe, being kind and being a learner. They filled our giant HIVE and students voted on the reward. Watch the video to see what they selected!

Dance Parties in

our Library

We celebrated a year full of great books and adventures in our library with Dance Parties hosted by Ms. Anna! We are excited for our big library and parking lot redesign this summer!

Looking Forward to Seeing Growth

Liberty students have been working to grow their academic skills and knowledge, as well as social emotional skills like handling big emotions, making friends, problem-solving, and continuing to work hard even when it feels tough. Classroom students will be working on some testing the next few weeks. We are looking forward to seeing all their growth!

Celebrating Our Learning

Early Childhood

Little Learners celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up the woods and fields around the school. The soccer fields have also been a great place to practice the skill of teamwork by flying kites!

In ECFE and Little Learners classes, students are planting and talking about what plants need to grow. We will extend these lessons on our field trip to Sherburne Wildlife Refuge in May.

ECFE Families will also be invited to come on a field trip to Como Zoo! Check out our fun summer ECFE classes on the Community Education Site!

Kindergarten

This month, the Kindergartners traveled back in time to talk about Pilgrim and Colonial times. It was crazy to see how different life was hundreds of years ago. We have been working hard on learning Tricky Words to help us be fluent readers. As a highlight, Ms. Anna hosted the most incredible Dance Party to wrap up a great year in the Library. We can’t wait to see the new Library transformation next Fall!

In May, we are looking forward to our ABC Celebration Days and Extravaganza Day!

1st Grade

This month, the first graders have been busy learning about different types of habitats around the world for plants and animals. This will be great background knowledge as we prepare for a fun field trip to the Como Zoo at the beginning of May. We are so excited!

A favorite memory for a lot of us was our dance party at the library as we wrapped up our school year with Ms. Anna. We are looking forward to seeing what it will look like in the fall after the construction!

2nd Grade

Second graders have enjoyed many learning experiences in April. We have developed a PASSION for history through our reading on the Civil War. Students have also developed a LOVE for jazz music after the high school jazz band graciously performed for us.

In May, 2nd graders have a lot to look forward to. We will go on our field trip to Stages Theater, visit Independence, and perform their much-awaited musical!

Parenting Points

Extra Clothes in Backpacks:

Please make sure your child(ren) has an extra set of clothes in their backpack just in case it is needed. Thanks for your help with this!

Screen Free Week:

The weather is getting nicer! This is the time to put away the screens and spend more time outside. Screen Free Week is coming up, May 6th-12th. Make a family goal of how to celebrate. The Screen Free Site Family Guide has lots of fun ideas!

Continue Learning this Summer:

During the school year, students have had access to an app on their school-issued iPads called “IXL”. This is a platform where students practice math skills specific to their own needs and grade level goals. Students are presented with questions involving counting, addition, subtraction, word problems, and developing number-sense.  Student iPads will be kept at school, but your child will continue to have access to their IXL accounts during the summer months from any personal device. Students’ login information can be found on their “Tech Cards”, or you may reach out to your child’s teacher for usernames and passwords.
