It’s Lions District Convention Time - “Tails” from the Convention Trail!

The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Development team (Nanon, Mary Beth and Fran) and our Executive Director, Edwin Link were actively participating in the four MD 18 Lions Conventions starting with the District 18-I Convention on March 5, 2022 and finishing with 18-O's District Convention in Perry, GA on April 1-2, 2022. This was a wonderful opportunity for our new GLLF team to meet all the attending Lions who serve their communities with distinction across the state of Georgia. We estimate there were nearly 350 Lions in attendance at one of more of the Conventions.

We hosted an informational table for Lions to talk one-on-one with staff to learn more about our different products, services and fundraising campaigns as well as made remarks to the general assembly. Our message was very simple – we wanted to express our appreciation to the Lions and recognize the contribution that Georgia Lions make in advancing the Mission of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. We developed a “Wall of Fame” for each Lions District Convention that featured the District’s financial impact, celebrated its service and provided metrics to quantify how many needy patients in each District were helped through our vision and hearing services. Our other message to the Lions was to reinforce the notion of GLLF as responsible stewards of Lions' donor dollars; showing how members of the communities the Lions serve, benefit from our services; and how Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is also investing in new services such as Tele-Optometry to extend the reach of our vision services.

At the Lions District Conventions, there were several awards given to deserving Lions and one of the highlights at the Conventions was the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony which is the highest honor awarded to a Lion at the District level. As background, in order to be a considered a HOF nominee, a Lion must have performed at least 10 years of active service and distinguished him/herself by demonstrating the ideals of “Lionism” through the Lions Club, District and Community. Each nominee is vetted by a selection committee comprised of the immediate past three District Governors. Congratulations to these MD 18 N, L and I District’s Hall of Fame Lions who were recognized at their respective Conventions:

  • Vicki Hubbard, Social Circle (I)
  • Marcia Anderson-Esson, Snellville (I)

Fundraising walks are a great way to engage friends and family to support an organization you are passionate about. It is a way to take physical action while also raising critical funds to support Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. As Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation finds innovative ways to serve those in need of vision and hearing services, funds raised will go directly to mission delivery.

If you haven’t already registered as in individual or with your club, church, workplace, and/or family team, THERE IS STILL TIME!

Registration is easy as visiting www.strides4sightandsound.com and clicking the registration button. At the prompts you can join an already existing team or register as an individual. One of our favorite things about fundraising through this website is how easy it is for you to share this with your friend and family. You can use the arrow at the top right corner of your fundraising page and ask via email or Facebook.

Please note any offline donations can be brought in or sent to Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and be credited to your team.

Volunteers Needed! For the April 23rd event, we also need Lion volunteers for registration, shirt incentive fulfillment, parking, escorting walkers, and supporting a Lions Table. Please contact Fran Schefer (fschefer@lionslighthouse.org) or Mary Beth King (mking@lionslighthouse.org) if interested.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING CLUBS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION
