Together, We Make Tomorrow Look Better

Where it Begins - Eyeglass Collection:

Lions Clubs all across Southern California place eyeglass collection boxes in doctors' offices, churches, and businesses. On a regular schedule dedicated members then collect the donated eyeglasses. Clubs sort and box them for Friends In Sight. Collection boxes are available to clubs free of charge, and as a service to the public, we post find drop-off locations by zip code on our website!

Behind the Scenes - Preparation & Inventory Maintenance:

Once glasses are collected, there is a lot of activity behind the scenes to help make your vision screening project a success. We clean, measure the lenses on a Lensometer, manage inventory, and perform database entry for the next event. These are all great opportunities to volunteer with Friends in Sight Behind the Scenes.

Working With Your District Coordinator - Event Planning:

Your District Coordinator works with Lions clubs to schedule events. They serve as an advisor and play a key role in approving the event venues. They provide a written hosting guide, and materials to help recruit doctors and opticians. In addition, the District Coordinator maintains a team of trained volunteers ready & willing to help newcomers.

Where the Magic Happens - Onsite Services:

Friends in Sight provides automated testing equipment for volunteers, instruments for doctors & opticians, computers for eyeglass database searches, 18,000 pairs of cataloged free recycled glasses, and on site training to make sure all volunteers play a rewarding role. Find the next event in your district!

How We Learn and Grow - Post-Screening Activities:

We record and organize reports after every event, including eyeglass usage stats, pathologies detected, and volunteer attendance/recognition. The data gets posted to our website for all to see . We catalog and restock our rolling racks and make sure our vehicles and equipment are repaired and maintained, keeping us ready for the next event.
