It is time to be "Roaring on Route 66"! Registration is now open for MD4CON 2024 at the Riverside Convention Center, February 23 through 25, 2024. Early registration is $35.00. Hotel registration information can presently be found on the MD4 website on the Convention tab.

Registration for the Mid-Winter Council of Governors Meeting preceding MD4CON, February 21 and 22, 2024, is also part of the same registration form.

Lions in Sight Eyeglass Recycling

All-Hands Service Project

All,

The Lions In Sight Eyeglass Recycling All-Hands Service Project is really growing as a community institution. The project continues to expand as a community wide service event held every few months for 3 years now, and the total number of eyeglasses recycled now exceeds 600,000.

Today posted a record number of volunteers, and the 2nd most eyeglasses recycled in a single day. Over 120 service minded volunteers worked together at Vista Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired, San Jose to sort, wash, and lensometer prepare over 50,000 used eyeglasses for international Lions sponsored medical mission trips.

Volunteers included members of 5 local high schools, a motor cycle club, the Delta Gamma sorority of San Jose State, numerous local Lions Clubs, Vista Center visually impaired clients and staff, and AARP. Perhaps 40 participants raised their hands as first timers. Kudos to the terrific Kaisahan Lions Club who hosted a fabulous lunch. Four service minded volunteers of which I am aware expressed keen interest in joining Lions.

One new volunteer was loudly audible taking to friends as they left, “I feel good! We did a good thing, and the social part is what I like best.”

The next Lions In Sight Eyeglass Recycling All-Hands Community Service Project is scheduled at Vista Center for Saturday, May 4, 2024, 9 AM to 2 PM. Forty members of the Stanford University Medical School Alumni Association have already signed up, and they are serving breakfast!
