Patriots' Day is here! There is a full weekend of events planned. There are tours, reenactments, and of course the parade!
This week's newsletter will include details about parts of the weekend, but here are a few quick links you can utilize:

Schedule of Events
There are some events that are being offered on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Those include the Liberty Ride Guided Trolley Tours, Battle Green Walking Tours, and tours of the only three historically furnished houses related to the Battle of Lexington.

Parking & Road Closures
All collection of metered parking fees will be suspended from Saturday through Monday. There is a map of available parking posted online, and fees indicated on that map should be ignored for Patriots' Day weekend.
There will be no parking permitted in any space adjacent to the Battle Green. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed immediately.
Handicap Parking
Additional handicap parking spaces will be added to the Meriam Street parking lot. For the afternoon parade, a group of parking spots between Edison Way and the Post Office will designated as handicap parking spots.
Road Closures
Please see the Town's website for a detailed list of road closures. If you do not have to drive through or around Lexington Center on Patriots' Day, you are advised not to.

Important!
All Town Offices and Buildings, including the Town Office Building, the Cary Memorial Library, and the Community Center, will be closed on Patriots' Day. Members of the Department of Public Works, Department of Public Facilities, as well as members of the Police Department and Fire Department will be actively working to ensure all events are carried out smoothly and safely. If you see a member of Town Staff, please be appreciative of their hard work.
Additionally, as Monday, April 15 is recognized as a holiday, there will be no curbside collection trash, recycling, or compost. Collection will operate on a one-day delay for the remainder of the week, ending with Friday collection occurring on Saturday morning.

Launch of Lex250 Celebrations
On Friday, April 19 the Lex250 Commission will officially kick-off a full year of celebrations leading up to the Semiquincentennial of the Battle of Lexington.
Join the Commission, members of Town Staff, State officials, Foreign Dignitaries, and members of the public in marking the beginning of this historic countdown.

Town Manager Search Screening Committee | |
The Town of Lexington is seeking immediate interest from residents and members of the business community to serve on the Town Manager Search Screening Committee. This Committee is responsible for recommending finalists to the Select Board for consideration for appointment of Lexington's next Town Manager. | |
The Committee will consist of:
- Two Select Board members
- One Planning Board Member
- One Business Representative
- Five Community Representatives (These members can be residents, Town Meetings members, or Board/Committee members

The deadline to apply to be a part of this committee is Friday, April 19, 2024. Applications submitted beyond that date will not be considered. Click here to apply.
Serving on this Committee will require a significant commitment of time. Committee work will begin by mid-May, with final recommendations being submitted to the Select Board by August 14, 2024 (unless otherwise decided by the Select Board). Meetings will be frequent and may involve several sessions lasting a half day or longer.
Committee work will include community listening sessions, resume reviews, screen interviews, and evaluation sessions. A full scope of the work expected to be completed by the Committee is detailed in the official charge, adopted by the Select Board on April 8, 2024.

Calling All Artists: Cultural Canvas | |
Lexington Recreation & Community Programs is partnering with Lexington Council for the Arts in search of artists to transform the Community Center's bare walls into creative and exciting wall murals! The two organizations are seeking proposed designs that celebrate our Town's history and diversity.
Submit your proposal to cdean@lexingtonma.gov or drop off your submission at the Lexington Community Center (39 Marrett Road) by Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Artists of all experience levels are welcome and encouraged to apply!

Today: Deadline to Submit Application for Dog License | |
Mass General Law requires that ALL dogs six months and older must be licensed.
The license fee for dogs who are spayed/neutered is $15.00 and the fee for unaltered dogs is $20.00.
Applications submitted after Friday, April 12 will be subject to late fees. Those fees must be payed in addition to the initial cost of the license.

Students, Parents Take Bike Train to Hastings Elementary School | |
A group of students and parents biked to Hastings Elementary School on the morning of Wednesday, April 10, led by Lexington Town Manager, James Malloy (bright green jacket).
The event was organized through the Safe Routes to School program, which encourages using alternative forms of transportation to get to and from school, as opposed to driving a car. It also promotes pedestrian and bicycle safety in high traffic areas. The Hastings Bike Train helps promote active transportation and an environmentally friendly option for students and parents.

Lexington Street Detour in Waltham | |
Travel alert for those who commute to and from Waltham! This week, the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) placed a significant detour on Lexington Street that will remain until the fall.

Lexington LifeTimes Magazine Calls for Creative Submissions | |
Are you a 60+ resident or employee in Lexington with a knack for creativity? We invite you to share an original art piece, short story, poem, or photography project with the community by submitting your work to Lexington Lifetimes.
Lexington LifeTimes Magazine is a creative arts journal published by the Friends of the Council on Aging. The Magazine is professionally produced and published bi-annually, featuring the literary and visual art of those 60+ living or working in Lexington.
Submissions for the Summer 2024 issue are being accepted until Wednesday, May 1. See the submission guidelines and application form for more information.

Let's Talk Trash! Help Determine the Future of Waste Collection | |
Interested in weighing in on the future of Lexington's waste collection? Today (Friday, 4/12) is your last chance to take the Lexington Survey fir Zero Waste.
Completing this survey is your way to contribute to the town's Zero Waste Plan and goal of cutting down the amount of trash that ends up in local landfills.
The survey should only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Cary Lecture Series Presents: Creating Equal Opportunity in America | |
Join us at Cary Hall on Saturday, April 20 at 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM for the next installment of the Cary Lecture Series! This talk, titled Creating Equal Opportunity in America: New Insights from Big Data, will be presented by Harvard University Professor Raj Chetty.
Chetty will discuss how and why children's chances of climbing the income ladder vary across neighborhoods, the persistence of racial disparities in economic mobility, and the role of social capital in promoting upward mobility. He will also discuss how research findings can be used to make major changes to improve economic opportunities for all.
Raj Chetty is the William A. Ackman Professor of Public Economics at Harvard University, Director of the nonprofit Opportunity Insights, recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, and one of the youngest tenured professors in Harvard history.
