Spring Water Meter Reading Begins March 27

The Water/Sewer Division will begin reading all Town water meters on Monday, March 27 and will continue through the end of April.

A DPW meter reader may visit each residence and business. Staff will present Lexington DPW identification and a resident can verify water meter personnel by calling the DPW Operations Office at (781) 274-8300 extension 1.

There are only about 1,800 meters that still need manual reads. If you have not had your water meter upgraded yet, please call (781) 274-8359 or (781) 274-8370 or email utilitybilling@lexingtonma.gov to set up an appointment as soon as possible.

If an inside meter cannot be accessed or an outside meter pad cannot be read, a self-addressed, stamped card will be left at the business or residence. It is crucial that the actual reading on your meter be recorded on this card and returned by mail within three (3) business days. If a card is not returned, water billing will be based on estimation. Phone meter readings cannot be accepted. When you fill in the meter reading, please include all digits including leading and trailing zeroes, starting from left to right. This will help to insure accurate billing.

Cooperation with the Town’s water meter reading program is most appreciated. Questions and concerns can be directed to the DPW Operations Office at (781) 274-8300 extension 1.

Hydrants Flushing Program Begins April 9

In an ongoing effort to provide our residents with quality drinking water, the Water Division will be conducting the annual town-wide Hydrant Flushing Program starting Sunday, April 9. The program will begin in both East Lexington and West Lexington and will continue moving from east to west and from west to east towards the middle of town until the flushing is completed.

Timing

In an effort to minimize any inconvenience, flushing of the water system will be completed between the hours of 9:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M., Monday through Thursday. No flushing will be done during the weekends.

What to Expect

Residents may experience some discoloration in their water in the areas being flushed. If discoloration does occur, we ask that you run your cold water from a none-filtered faucet, like your bathtub or basement sink, for a short time to clear up the water.

You may want to plan your water usage, such as bathing, cooking or other water required activities, so they will not be during the time the system is being flushed. Or you can fill jugs of water.

Contact Information

We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur. If you have any question you can reach the Water Division at 781-274-8300 Ex.1 or visit us on the Town website.
