LINK TO HOPE NEWSLETTER
Greetings from the Executive Director - Melissa Karrer
Hi Friends,

We are rounding the corner to the end of the summer and I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I'll be moving my oldest son into the dorms at UK in 2 weeks and my youngest son will be a freshman in high school - new phases of life ahead!

Speaking of phases, I was able to spend some time with a very special group, the Thursday Group - the longest running breast cancer support group in Kentucky whose members played key roles in the Kentucky Breast Cancer Coalition going to Washington DC decades ago to advocate for more support for breast cancer resources. Being in the presence of 30+ year survivors and listening to stories from such amazing women was very heartwarming and inspiring.

We are still in planning mode for our Links to Hope Golf Scramble at Keene Trace Golf Club - Keene Run on Tuesday, September 19th. If you would like information on how to get involved - be sure and visit that section of the newsletter. If you can't join in and play, there are meaningful ways to be involved as a hole sign sponsor!

This month's WKYT story highlights a new partnership with the Zinnia Project - founded by Sarah Lister. Be sure to watch the Link to Hope segment below to learn how we are working to support each other - and grow!

I am thankful for you following along with our mission. Together we can be a link to hope to our friends and neighbors in Kentucky.

Grow where you are planted,

Melissa

Exciting News!
We are excited to share that KCL and The Zinnia Project have joined together to collaborate with hopes of making an even greater impact in the cancer community. KCL will host The Zinnia Project by providing a space for them to store inventory, assemble baskets, & provide greater visibility.

The Zinnia Project was created by Sarah Warner Lister, a cancer survivor and bone marrow transplant recipient, who, after enduring lengthy hospital stays, wanted to deliver cheer to hospitalized cancer patients who may need some extra support. The Zinnia Project delivers zinnia patient baskets to hospitalized hematology patients at UK Markey Cancer Center and "mini zinnies" to other hospitalized cancer patients at UKMCC who might also need support.
We're excited about this teamwork effort and growth of this partnership! View the WKYT Link to Hope segment HERE!

Out & About
Melanie & Syrena attended the 3rd annual Kentucky Chamber Women's Summit on July 18 at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. It was an inspiring day filled with networking and empowerment, with other women from across the Commonwealth, who play a crucial role in Kentucky's success.
Melissa was able to spend an evening with the Thursday Group - the longest running breast cancer support group with survivors of 30+ years whose members were integral in beginning the Kentucky Breast Cancer Coalition and raising awareness in Washington, DC decades ago highlighting the needs in Kentucky. Thank you to member and hostess, Sonia Woodall for opening her home for the event. A very inspiring group of women!

Sheet Pan Shrimp Boil

This is the easiest shrimp boil ever and the best part-the cleanup is a breeze. Using one sheet pan, you can create the most delicious meal in a matter of minutes. Your family will fight over the leftovers...if there are any.

Heirloom Tomato Pie

This Southern summer classic recipe is an excellent way to put that bumper crop of homegrown tomatoes to good use. The key is to roast the tomatoes first. This prevents the filling from being too wet and caramelizes the tomatoes intensifying the flavor.

Ina Garten's Peach Cobbler

This easy, lazy recipe for peach cobbler is going to be one you'll want to save. It's a great way to use fresh peaches that are in season and it's delicious. You can substitute canned or frozen peaches when fresh ones are unavailable.
