Lincoln Park 2014

Frog Call Monitor Training

Saturday, February 22 - 10 a.m. to Noon

Lincoln Park

Frog - Plains LeopardFrog - Western Chorus Frog - Spring Peeper

WHAT IS IT & WHY IS IT NEEDED?
Volunteers will monitor Lincoln Park's ponds for frogs and toads, which will provide information to scientists and land managers such as the the Lincoln Park Conservancy and Chicago Park District who use the data to conduct important research and make decisions about native habitats that benefit amphibian populations.  Currently, very little is known about the distribution and status of Chicago's native frogs and toads, so we need your help!

WHAT'S INVOLVED & WILL I GET TO MEET KERMIT?
  • Attend a two-hour training class.
  • Visit the pond 30-minutes after sunset to listen for frogs three times (six hours total) between March 15 and July 10.
  • Record your results and weather data on each visit.
  • Submit your data.
  • Kermit lives in Hollywood, but it's possible one his cousins may be residing at a Lincoln Park pond.

SOUNDS FUN, HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?

Conservancy Mourns the Loss of John Martins

John Martins (1940-2013) was a Lincoln Park Conservancy volunteer for many years.  He began as a North Pond Gardener and then became a docent at the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool.  He was a kind, positive, intelligent and nurturing person and we will miss him dearly.

John had a PhD in Philosophy and was a licensed clinical psychologist who was appointed to the Illinois Board of Dept. of Education and Registration where he served both as a member and as its President.  Our love and gratitude go out to his family.

You are receiving this email because you are a valued member of the Lincoln Park Conservancy community.  If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
