Seasonal Restoration Assistant

We are pleased to announce the hire of our autumn restoration assistant for the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool and North Pond Nature Sanctuary.  Kiley will work alongside our Site Manger at these two park sites Monday through Friday until Thanksgiving.  Although her masters degree is in social work, she has significant experience through her prior work with the Friends of the Forest Preserve and holds an Illinois herbicide license and a certificate in CPR/First Aid.

Kiley will also assist in managing several of our key park programs including the North Pond Gardeners, Lincoln Park Tree Care Corps and our Corporate Workday Program.

In her free time, Kiley enjoys cycling, baking, shopping in thrift stores and spending time with her dog, Griffin.  We are happy to welcome Kiley to our team.

A Successful National Public Lands Day at the
North Pond Nature Sanctuary

Public Lands 2014 volunteersFifty-seven volunteers joined us on Saturday, September 27th for our 14th Annual National Public Lands Day at North Pond to mulch trees, plant wildflowers plugs, sow wildflower seeds and complete a soil-erosion repair project.  Mother Nature contributed by giving us a warm, sunny day.  Thanks to our North Pond Gardeners and our wonderful volunteer team leaders who supervised the mulching projects:  Lorraine K., Janet S, and Kristin D.

Adopt a Monument Program
Help Conserve Lincoln Park's Historic Monuments

Docent Rob TourWhen the Lincoln Park Conservancy was founded in 1984, some of our first projects centered on conserving the beautiful, historic portrait monuments in Lincoln Park through our Adopt-a-Monument Program.

Over the years, we raised private funds from corporations and individuals to conserve the Shakespeare Monument, the Eli Bates Fountain sculptures in the Conservatory's Formal Garden, and Lincoln: The Man (aka: Standing Lincoln) near North Avenue and Dearborn.  We also added the 8,200 s.f. formal garden that connects the Lincoln Monument to the neighborhood and main walkway along North Avenue.

We are now looking for donors to help conserve the John Peter Altgeld Monument located in the park just south of Diversey Parkway and east of Cannon Drive.  The monument is by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and was installed in 1915.  It requires a new concrete foundation and overall conservation.  To learn more about John Peter Altgeld, click here.
