If your mailbox looks anything like mine at this time of year, then you're receiving many donation requests from worthy nonprofits.  While it can be difficult to decide where to give, we ask you to consider giving locally - your gift to the Lincoln Park Conservancy makes an impact you can see each time you go for a lakefront run, walk your dog around North Pond or play with your children in Lincoln Park.

Your year-end gift of any size to our annual Holiday Appeal is fully tax deductible and will help us to provide you with the high-quality park programs and improvements you've come to expect from us over the last 30 years.

On behalf of the Lincoln Park Conservancy Board of Directors and employees, we wish you a joyful and healthy holiday season.

In Service of Nature and Community,

Susan Fargo
Board President

Welcome, Susan Hammerman
Volunteer Programs Coordinator

We are pleased to introduce and welcome Susan Hammerman to the Lincoln Park Conservancy staff.  Ms. Hammerman will serve as Volunteer Programs Coordinator.

Her responsibilities will include coordinating the Lincoln Park Docent Program, a joint program of the Chicago Park District and Lincoln Park Conservancy.  She will also work with the Lincoln Park Conservancy's Site Manager to run our Biodiversity Program, assist with administrative tasks pertaining to the North Pond Gardeners Program and the Lincoln Park Tree Care Corps, and will be the friendly voice you hear when you book any of our park tours.

Ms. Hammerman joins us from the Chicago Botanic Garden where she was a Volunteer Facilitator.  She earned a bachelors degree in Geography from the University of Chicago.  Prior to her work at the CBG, she was the School Outreach Coordinator and a luthier for the Seman Violin Company where she managed an 800 musical-instrument rental program.   Ms. Hammerman has volunteered her time to organize volunteers for the Ricky Birdsong Race Against Hate.  She has also volunteered to lead tours for school children and perform restoration work on native-plant landscapes at the North Park Village Nature Center and is a certified TreeKeeper.

Susan is an avid runner and plays the cello in the Evanston Symphony Orchestra.   We are thrilled to have Ms. Hammerman as a member of the Lincoln Park Conservancy team.

Congratulations, North Pond Restaurant!

Bruce For the second year in a row Chef/Co-Owner Bruce Sherman and his amazing culinary team have earned a prestigious award.  After receiving the 2012 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes, the North Pond Restaurant has now earned, for the first time,  one Michelin Star.   Earning the star guarantees a listing in the 2014 Michelin Chicago Guide used by travelers worldwide.

Congratulations to Bruce, Rich and the entire North Pond Restaurant team on this much deserved honor.

Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool Closed for the Season

On November 4th, the Lily Pool was closed for the winter season, as it is each year.  We know you'll miss your favorite place to escape the stress of city living, but the Lily Pool will re-open in mid-April 2014.  Until then, be sure to schedule a visit to the Lincoln Park Conservatory for a stroll through the Palm House, Fern Room, Orchid Room or the 2013 Winter Flower and Train Show, which opened November 30th and runs through January 5th.
