July 2021
From Loretta's Desk
“For you were called for freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” - Galatians 5:13

Arriving with renewed optimism at the halfway point of 2021, we find ourselves in full summer mode thanks to the warmth of July. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate not only our independence as a country but also the independence of all our residents at Protected Harbor. The Christ-centered care provided by our staff is designed to promote choice, independence, and the highest quality of life for those we serve every day!

The past months have been very busy, filled with life-changing and loving opportunities for our residents. We have continued our special “strong bodies” exercise classes, mosaic art classes, bowling, kayak races, beach parties, picnics on the lake, and even enjoyed a few pool parties as well. God is good!

Our “Behind the Smiles” campaign is continuing to create a strong foundation for Protected Harbor and its residents. It is raising awareness in our community and beyond which in turn enhances the quality of life for those we serve today as well as for the many special people we are being called to serve in the future.

We offer a special thanks to everyone who has joined our monthly recurring giving campaign. Giving in this form provides a stable foundation as we plan for future growth. For those of you who may be interested in learning how to come alongside our work with monthly giving, I would love to schedule a phone conversation or coffee meeting in person. Staff Spotlight: Hannah Roberson
We are pleased to welcome our new college intern, Hannah Roberson. Her assistance with marketing and administrative supports will be of great value as Protected Harbor begins serving more of God's special people. Hannah immensely enjoys the time she’s been able to interact with our residents.

Having interns working alongside us is an opportunity and a blessing that goes both ways. Hannah is one such young lady who at 21 years of age is busy working towards her bachelor’s degree in marketing. She will be graduating in December.
Behind the Smiles: Meet Cleo
Cleo thinks of herself as our “party girl”. Behind her smile is a woman always ready to try something new and who can find fun in the most mundane aspects of daily life. Cleo’s parents, George and Athena Pappas played a central role in creating the idea for and the actual building of Protected Harbor’s first group home where Cleo has been living. She proudly thinks of it as the home her daddy built for her.

Cleo is a big fan of old movies and fantasizes about being part of the drama and romance portrayed in old Hollywood classics. It is no surprise that she loves dressing up as if going out for a night on the town, wearing a pair of earrings from her extensive collection. The highlight of any holiday is anticipating a trip back home, allowing her the opportunity to take her parents out to dinner.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our donors.  In response to the many calls we receive asking how you can help, we are launching our new Online Wish List.  Click the Contribution link on the left for a current list of items needed and desired for the homes.  Items are shipped directly to us making it even easier for those wishing to lend an extra hand of support.
