Transitions Update From Your Vestry at COHS

Members of your Vestry from L to R:

Eric Hunt, Mo Higgins, Bill Kerwin, Emily Knorr, Rick Alderfer, Kirk Walters, Al Stevens, Kathy Clipp, Susan Fisher, Brian Ray

Dear Friends,

This past Sunday, the first after Pentecost, we observed Trinity Sunday, which is the annual liturgical celebration of God’s presence among us as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. For those of us who have trouble wrapping our heads around the doctrine of the Trinity, it was both enlightening and refreshing to see Rev. Bob Mitman at the lectern, happily slicing an apple in half and giving us a down-to-earth mental image that we can hold onto when our minds struggle with abstractions. Many thanks to Rev. Bob for presiding and preaching at Sunday’s service. Thanks also to Gordon Muir for leading us in a moment of silence in keeping with the observance of Memorial Day.

Chris Detwiler took the time to thank the 20 or so people who showed up this past Saturday 5/25 to help with our church cleanup. Please see Brian Ray if you are interested in participating in additional groundskeeping projects.

Our Search Team is in high gear as they near the culmination of their efforts, which will be to recommend one applicant for the position of Rector. As Rev. Bob said Sunday morning, “Things are happening! Keep praying!”

Peace and blessings,

Pat Fogal

A Note From Deacon Johnine

Dear Ones,

Here at Church of the Holy Spirit, we have a vibrant gathering of individuals who pray daily for those in any kind of need whether physical, mental or emotional. Your request for prayers can include members of your family, friends, or your colleagues at work. Anyone.

This Prayer Chain is coordinated by Priya Eddy who can be reached by email at priyaeddy231@gmail.com. You can email Priya directly or myself about any concerns which need the attention of our Prayer Angels. Please consider joining this prayerful group by contacting Priya and she will make sure you are included in all the emails of prayer concerns.

Thank you for your consideration in joining this most worthwhile, holy ministry.

In Need of a room rental ...

A member of our community has a 31 year old daughter who is in need of renting a room for the next two or three months. If you can help or know someone who can help, please let me know via my email at deaconjb@gmail.com before June 14.

Thank you for your attention to this situation!!!

In Need of Clothing ...

There will be a collection box in the Narthex for slightly used clean t-shirts for men and women sizes L and XL. If you can iron them as well that would be great. You can also purchase new shirts if that works better for you. The shirts will be going to the St. Francis Inn in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. We will be collecting these items for the next two weeks. This is the final week for collection, please bring the shirts in by Friday, 5-24.

Thank you for your generosity.

Healing during our transition ...

During this time of transition, there have been many prayers ascending to God for emotional, physical and spiritual health for family and friends.

Rev. Robert Mitman and I are offering the opportunity of a Healing Service on Tuesday, June 4, at 6:30 PM where we will come together in community to pray for the health of each other and for others on our Prayer Chain. This gathering will happen in the sanctuary. It is guaranteed to be a holy time where we will be able to grow stronger in the presence of God and each other.

Community Outreach

On Sunday June 9th at 2:00 PM, the youth choir will go with Deacon Johnine to the Birches to provide a worship service. Our thanks to all our families who are participating in this important community outreach ministry.

We will no longer be meeting via Zoom on the third Sunday of the month. We will now meet on the first and third Sunday of each month in the chapel as we pray during this time of Transition. We will meet at 9:05 and end our time together at 9:25 so the folks can get to choir practice on time. Thank you for your attention to this news.
