Greensboro Housing Authority is excited to announce the 2024 Summer Design Program! This Summer program is available for elementary and middle school GHA residents, ages 8-13. Elementary and middle school students will participate in a 3-day program with trained program facilitators and trained high school facilitators. The program is FREE; however, registration is required. The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is a voluntary program for households enrolled in Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, and Project-Based Voucher programs to help them increase their earnings and build financial capability and assets.

Changing Culture One Day at a Time, One Kid at a Time

We sincerely believe that to effectively address the issue of violence and other ills in our communities we must change the existing culture. This is especially true for our youth. To begin this culture shift, our coalition has created a comprehensive program to engage young people between the ages of 5 and 18 years.

Here are the dates and locations for the upcoming workshops:

- July 27: Windsor

- August 10: Peeler

- August 24: Glenwood

- September 7: Warnersville

*These comprehensive workshops are entirely free of charge. Registration is now open for both youth participants and volunteers

Hands-on Air Pollution Workshop for Teens

August 8th ~ 9:00am - 12:00pm

The Office of Sustainability and Resilience’s (OSR) hosts “What's in Our Air? Air Pollution and Monitoring 101,” a hands-on STEM program for teens, from 9 am to 12 pm, Thursday, August 8, at Kathleen Clay Library. This program is free but registration is required. 

Led by the Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection staff, this workshop will teach the basics of air quality through fun, hands-on learning. Participants will simulate how some daily activities cause air pollution, affecting the air we breathe. They will learn how air quality forecasting can protect our health and do some monitoring of their own by studying lichens, which are biological indicators of air quality, on the library grounds.

SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL

The dazzling adaptation of the hit Broadway musical about three black soul singers who form the music trio, the Dreamettes. But when an ambitious manager spots their act at a talent show, he offers them chance of a lifetime that leads to him taking creative control of the group and pushing the singers into the spotlight. As one becomes the star, another is forced out of the group, as all three women must learn the high cost of fame.

The Neighborhood Toolbox is back! Neighborhood Toolbox is a joint effort between the City’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HND) and Lowe’s Home Improvement. HND staff created the program last year and Lowe’s donated the equipment and tools for lending.

“Often residents can’t make necessary home repairs or improvements simply due to the fact that they don’t have the equipment needed,” says Michelle Kennedy, HND director. “This program literally puts tools in the hands of neighborhoods that need them most.”

This tool-lending program is available for non-commercial purposes to people living within Greensboro city limits.
