La Merced Gala
Honorary Event Committee
Are you in touch with fellow Skippers? Are you a leader (you're a Mercy girl,
of course you're a leader) and influencer within your graduating class? Do you want to help Mercy reach its fundraising goal this year?
We are currently accepting nominations
—yourself or your classmates
—to join our La Merced Gala Honorary Event Committee. The commitment is simple, but important
—we need alumnae who can act as ambassadors to the school through their class connections.
Role of the Honorary Event Committee:
- Get the word out and drum up support and excitement for the gala through their social circles
- Attend the gala on April 4 at the Olympic Club
- Bring Skippers, friends, and relatives to the gala—filling a table or becoming a sponsor is desired
The best part is that Committee members never have to attend a meeting! Your name will also appear on our invitation and you will be recognized with the Committee at the gala.
If you would like to engage with your alma mater and serve on the La Merced Gala Honorary Event Committee, please contact Alumnae Development Officer, Georgia Wasley '09,
gwasley@mercyhs.org or 415-872-0968.

Courage and Spirit Assembly
The 2019 Courage and Spirit Assembly is organized around the theme of "Refugees." The first half hour of the assembly will honor Mr. Ralph Samuels, a survivor from the refugee program, Kindertransport, which brought 10,000 German and Austrian Jewish children, without their parents, to England following the vicious pogrom of November 1938 known as Kristallnacht. After Mr. Samuels' brief remarks, the students, staff, and guests will go to one of four different panels featuring the testimony of refugees
—many with Mercy connections
—who have survived other human rights crises around the world.
There will be speakers from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. They will be hosted and moderated by students as well as alumnae (
Adrienne Nahass Shatara '06 and
Jessica Fisher Chimento '08) who have been immersed in and/or have been studying the historical context of their stories. These presentations will be followed by our annual All-Survivors luncheon in Rist Hall, where many Holocaust and survivors of these other crises will gather and break bread together, hosted by a delegation of students and staff.
Date: Tuesday, March 26
Time: TBD
Location: Mercy High School
Cost: Free
RSVP to Georgia Wasley, Alumnae Development Officer, at
gwasley@mercyhs.org if you are interested in attending the assembly and/or luncheon. Space is limited.
