Dear Alumnae,
I am so excited by my appointment as Mercy’s new Head of School!
There are challenges ahead, but it’s exhilarating as I look into the faces of our current Mercy girls. I am eager to forge new bonds with you, Mercy’s cherished alums; I also look forward to your continued support of Mercy. No matter when you graduated, from 1952 to 2018, together we begin a new chapter in Mercy’s story!
It is hard to believe that we have already begun the season of Advent, the time of waiting for Jesus to be born, not as a babe in Bethlehem, but as a renewing presence of God in each of our hearts.
We look forward to celebrating Christmas as a time to remember and to be grateful for Jesus being born into our world to bring a message of hope and peace. He also brings a promise that with his grace we can bring that same message into our world. Christmas bids us to be bearers of light into a world with too much darkness.
So take some time this Advent—away from the rush to decorate and to shop and to bake. Take some time just for you and your family to realize what a gift each of you is to one another. Take some time to pray for those who may feel that they’ve lost everything, or that they need to be loved—and reach out to them with the best gift—yourself!
One way that you can give of yourself this season is to respond to our appeal which will be in your mail soon. Mercy can really use your support now more than ever! Please consider carefully if you can bring light into a girl’s life by ensuring that she will benefit from a Mercy education just as you did. Even small contributions from each of our 11,000 alums add up...so please support Mercy if you are able!
May your family treasure this special time of Advent, waiting to discover that God is among us, and that we can see Jesus in the faces of one another! We join you in this time of waiting, quietly appreciating the gift that you are to us at Mercy.
In Mercy,
Sister Carolyn '65, RSM, Ph.D.
Head of School

La Merced Gala Honorary Event Committee
Are you in touch with fellow Skippers? Are you a leader (you're a Mercy girl,
of course you're a leader) and influencer within your graduating class? Do you want to help Mercy reach its fundraising goal this year?
We are currently accepting nominations
—yourself or your classmates
—to join our La Merced Gala Honorary Event Committee. The commitment is simple, but important
—we need alumnae who can act as ambassadors to the school through their class connections.
Role of the Honorary Event Committee:
- Get the word out and drum up support and excitement for the gala through their social circles
- Attend the gala on April 4 at the Olympic Club
- Bring Skippers, friends, and relatives to the gala—filling a table or becoming a sponsor is desired
The best part is that Committee members never have to attend a meeting! Your name will also appear on our invitation and you will be recognized with the Committee at the gala.
If you would like to engage with your alma mater and serve on the La Merced Gala Honorary Event Committee, please contact Alumnae Development Officer, Georgia Wasley '09,
gwasley@mercyhs.org or 415-872-0968.
