A Note from the Alumnae Office
|
|
My heart goes out to all my sisters in Mercy this week as we try to process the devastating news of Mercy High School's planned closure. I know we all have questions, concerns, and even suggestions on what our next steps should be so please know that I am trying to be as available as possible to our alumnae community and welcome your communications. I ask that we work together to update the Alumnae Office with contact information for classmates so that our reach extends in the next few months to as many alumnae as possible.
There will be a "farewell event" to honor Mercy sometime in the spring, but plans are not underway yet. Please know that we are still fundraising, as there are still areas that need support, such as scholarships that we would like to send off with the students. Lastly, we believe in miracles, so although we would need some very significant contributions in the coming months to possibly turn things around, so many of us haven't given up hope. Feel free to continue reaching out to me with your ideas or connections.
Thank you for your support and prayers. I trust our sisterhood will endure these months of transition and beyond. Mercy High all hail to thee!
Forever Mercy,
Alumnae Development Officer

Leung '99 Collaborates with Mercy Students on PSA
Christina Leung '99 is the Discount ID Office Manager for the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency (SFMTA) where she works in the office for people with disabilities and older adults. Her ADA coordinator came up with the idea for a PSA video to raise awareness about special needs. Christina was tasked to reach out to schools to see if students would be interested in participating in this project since they wanted to reach younger audiences who don’t notice safety issues like the ones special needs riders face.
Christina and her friends were already talking about their upcoming 20th reunion, so she thought to reach out to her alma mater to see if the Mercy students were up for the challenge. After a quick email exchange with Mercy’s Dean of Academics, the project was up and running! The students, with the guidance of their WiTech Coordinator, came up with the vision and then directed, acted, and produced it!

Alumnae Library Volunteers Needed
We would like volunteers to come in after school in Mercy's library to meet with students, proctor make-up tests, and keep our library open as a study area for students. We also would love to have alumnae on campus in our library during lunch time. There is no prior experience necessary in library work, just a willingness to be with our students and watch over them.
We are in need of volunteers in the afternoons on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning at 3:15 p.m. and every school day from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. If you are interested in learning more and/or volunteering in our library for a few days, one day a month, one day a week, or more, please email
Georgia Wasley or call her at 415-872-0968.
